5. He also said what Libby did was about a *Past* event, the CIA officer
fired was leaking info about an *ongoing* event.

So, now they're playing semantics to cover up their illegal activities.

11. Hooray for Juan Williams
He stood up for the CIA analyst who leaked about the secret torture prisons. None of the other panelists could argue him down, either. He stood his ground defending her until they gave up.

18. And they got nowhere
It was a good example for Williams to set. Who needs to be afraid of all those right wingers! They never even called him unpatriotic. I think he baffled them with his firm resolve. What a hoot. The bottom line is that he made them defend the secrecy of unamerican torture prisons.

6. So, in other words, we're paying an additional HIDDEN cost for oil??
Then eliminate the corporate welfare and let's have fair, open, and free competition based on actual costs.

Electric cars anyone?

but while speaking to Congress, didn't the reps for these companies state they didn't really need the tax cuts? It's nice that Kristol has so much time to fight for the welfare of others.

15. To obtain the same record profits, they would have had to gouge
even more. That's the same thing. Yes, oil prices would have been higher because oil profits would not have been lower. They weren't passing up this Bush-Cheney opportunity.

20. Shut up, warmongering neocon
Starting with the 1991 Gulf War, he continuously called for the ousting of Saddam Hussein... Kristol first made his mark as leader of the Project for the Republican Future, a conservative think tank, and rose to fame as a conservative opinionmaker during the battle over the Clinton health care plan. In his first of what would become legendary strategy memos circulated among Republican policymakers, Kristol said the party should "kill," not amend or compromise on, the Clinton health care plan.

27. The prices are damned hard to defend
Even WITH the tax breaks. Suppy and demand are a fiction where oil&gas are concerned.

There's some even older dynamic working here - Greed, pure and simple.

30. "The best idea that I have seen posted on this topic is to buy a gas can,
fill it with a gallon of gas, paint the date "November 7, 2006", and show it to your friends, neighbors, relatives, the local newspaper, etc.
This is to guarantee to the politicians at every level that you have enough gas in storage to drive to the polls, and elect someone who will help the common people combat the practices of the oil industry.
This is not a case of supply and demand, when the industry is united to exploit the present situation."

This is a copy of my reply to another topic. I don't want to take credit for the original idea, but I believe that it should become widespread.
I also addressed the topic of supply and demand, and exploitation, in the original post.

36. Not just profit, but rather profit growth -
sustained profit growth is what they want. They believe in the myth of an ever expanding global economy. So for them not making more profit tomorrow then today is bad performance; in their mind it means they didn't make use of economic opportunities.

33. mr. kristol suffers from "Napoleon Syndrome."
Not that every short man has this affliction, but I have had the misfortune of finding myself standing right next to this idiot about ten years ago, and believe me, he is short. He feels inadequate and, instead of just being a good person and accepting he is short, he feels the need to make up for what he feels he is lacking and be vicious instead. I had a professor who throughly believed in "Napoleon Syndrome." At first, I called bullshit, but after a while, I came to believe it. For some reason, our society has men convinced that they must be nearing 6 feet to be a 'strong man." Neocons who base their "strength" on how tough they are perceived, and not how good of a human being they are, tend to be prone to "Napoleon Syndrome."

I sure hope this post wasn't read with the wrong tone and perceived as condesceding. That was not the intention.

46. Without record profits to oil companies, oil prices would be lower!
As the price of crude oil has climbed - hitting a record $75.35 a barrel in New York on Friday - the combined 2005 earnings of Exxon Mobil, the world's biggest oil company; BP Plc, the second-biggest; Royal Dutch Shell Plc; Chevron Corp.; and ConocoPhillips topped $111 billion.
