Sustainable energy investing
So, I watch a couple of shows over the weekend that looked at the newer energy technologies. It made me really excited for the future and that we won't have to alter our go go lifestyle in order to create the energy we need in a sustainable way. They looked at personal home energy generation, plus newer power plants.

Most of these companies seem to be at the level of ...

1) We have a solid product, i.e. something practical people can actually buy and use.

2) We have a way to make it that already is or can be low cost.

I got the impression that they don't have many customers .... yet. They're still viewed as "experimental" and "fun" and "gee, isn't that interesting," rather than necessary. Like they're all just hanging around waiting for something. Except for the guy who is building a solar array in Spain with solar cells and mirror towers. That plant will be able to supply the town (Seville?).

Why am I posting this in the investing forum? I'm convinced that one of these types of companies will be the Microsoft or Cisco Systems of the future. One of these technologies will become such a basic backbone that no one will be without it.

Anybody else thinking similar?

1. Al Gore noted some companies he invests in during his most recent talk.
It's a new slideshow he's presenting, and it's on the TED site. http://www.ted.com/talks/view/id/243

I want to get out of all fossil fuel investing but it's a part of my mutual funds and Fidelity doesn't have a green fund.

I'd love to hear a vibrant discussion on this matter, or direction to it.
