Berry's Grumpy Thread
OK, this is probably mean and nasty of me, but here in the Clubhouse I decided to begin a DU Grumpy Thread. This is the place where I deposit everything about the rest of DU that is grumping me out. Feel free to join me.

I am grumpy with:

--DU'ers who whine and gripe about Keith being an MSM whore, and how unfair it is that he gets paid all that money to speak the truth, while others, poor little souls that they are, must toil for little or no pay to tell the same truth. Waah.

--DU'ers who have nothing but mean, cruel things to say about hikers, campers and climbers who get lost in the woods in winter, resulting in expensive rescue missions and media coverage that "distracts us from the real issues"...and tut-tut when they are found dead because "They were stupid to go out there in the first place without knowing what they were doing"...yet these same people will smoke up a storm and they'll be damned if some nanny tries to take away from them their RIGHT TO SMOKE because we all gotta die sometime, dammit!!!!

--DU'ers who are atheists and feel the compulsion during every Christmas season to tell everyone else in DU that Jesus wasn't really born on December 25, that all the Christmas traditions are derived from old pagan practices, and tell it as if it were brand-new information no one had ever heard before, and say that it's wrong to believe in any religion at all, because life's a bitch and then you die and become food for worms, and believing anything else is just a form of denial.

--DU'ers who think it's horribly sexist to judge any woman on the basis of her looks, then rhapsodize on and on about Dennis Kucinich's wife Elizabeth and how young and gorgeous she is, and how wonderful it would be for him to be president because we'd have a first lady who would be so young, gorgeous and hot. And of course, we know because she's so young, gorgeous and hot that she's a wonderful human being on the inside too. And so is he, because by golly, he managed to snag someone that young, gorgeous and hot for a wife, and how could he do that if he wasn't a wonderful human being on the inside?

OK, there's a start. Please, add on.

1. There's a bunch of grousers on DU, that's for sure
My faves are the ones who love to slam Texas (some even dare come into our forum to do it) because stupid falsely claims it as his home state (which would be Connecticut). Then, when we turn around & say "Hey, why not help us phonebank/blockwalk/contribute to a Dem campaign instead of bitching all the time," what do these assholes say?? ::crickets::

Go ahead, sic Keith on 'em:

Ohio gets the same thing. We're always being blamed for putting * over the top, when the truth is our election was stolen.

2. I have avoided the climbers
threads, still a bitter after taste on the James Kim family getting stranded in Oregon and how stupid he was to try to walk for help after 6 f'ing days of being stranded. Even though his footprints led the copter to the car to save his family. Still haven't seen many mea culpas from those that berated them for being human.

That's how I feel whenever someone wants to tell me the "good news" about Jesus. As if I grew up in a cave or something.

4. I understand, Cassandra. And it seems all wilderness threads are best avoided
because they bring out the self-righteous pompous "I never would have done such a stupid thing" ass in way too many people.

I'll try to get in a better mood. But these contract negotiations aren't going to bring out the best in me either. All I need is to listen to five million DU'ers saying Keith is greedy and selfish and costing jobs at MSNBC, just because his agent is in a good position to get him more money thanks to the ratings he's bringing in and is starting out by probably asking for more than he can really get (it's called bargaining, people!). As if he's not worth the money. As if they're going to fire people if they pay him what he's worth. As if his ratings won't benefit the whole network overall. As if he will use it all to buy a second home and not donate any of it to charity. Please.

down the line when the cost cutting is over. Personally, I think if Rita's and Tucker's contracts come up for renegotiation next year they will probably be set loose.

7. I agree about the religion point
I'm Christian and I know that Jesus probably wasn't born on December 25. I don't need to be reminded of that nor do I need to be ridiculed for being a Christian. We're about tolerance, not belittling people. I respect athiests/agnostics and their beliefs...

1) The 110th Congress sucks! I can't believe we elected these people. Nancy is doing a terrible job.

2) The only democrat is one who thinks somewhere to the left of Gandhi. If you have ever watched a NASCAR race, had meat for dinner or, God forbid, shopped at Wal-Mart, you must immediately turn in your voter's registration card.

3) My hypothetical presidential ticket is better than your hypothetical presidential ticket.

10. As a non-Christan
Edited on Mon Dec-18-06 10:33 PM by Mabus
I don't often feel the need to say anything about someone else's religion, especially when they are getting ready to celebrate it. I was taught to be tolerant and respectful of other religions.

My mom used to say that there are many paths to God. Some people take the scenic tour and some take the expressway but we all end up in the same place.

So, to all the Christians out there, Merry Christmas; to my fellow Jewish DU'ers, Happy Hanukkah; and to those who celebrate it, A joyful Kwanzaa; and to others who may be celebrating another religious/spiritual holiday/event that I don't know about, I hope this year's is the happiest one yet for you; and for everyone else, just mellow out and try to be happy for the other people that inhabit our small planet.

edited to correct spelling errors blantant enough that even W could have spotted them.

I'm Southern Arapaho and I follow my mother's tribal religion. I attend Sun Dances, use prayer cloths, sweat lodges, etc. Several of my relatives are involved with NAC and are the road men who dispense peyote. I attend NAC services from time to time.

20. It was my mistake
I was channeling Lindsey Lohan while I was posting. Boy, that was something I don't want to happen again. :scared:

No holiday for me but I do get to go to a lot of parties that people give to celebrate theirs. The event that is most like the spirit of this holiday season for us is the Sun Dance (both Southern Arapahos and Northern Arapahoes attend). It's a time when the tribe comes together and if you attend you follow the old ways, i.e., no photographs, no drinking, no drugs and restrictions on what men/women/children are allowed to do (ex. no menstruating women allowed within the outer circle near the dancers' lodge or the Rabbit Lodge). We also have some ceremonial foods. If you have a relative dancing then you have a duty to feed others and there are a lot of traditional rules about that (who you feed, what you feed them and when you feed them).

The closest thing we have to what actually goes on during this particular holiday season are have pow-wows. Most of the ones I've gone to last days. People camp out and they are like huge family reunions. We have contests and prizes are given out (little kids win things like a candy bar). Relatives get together and exchange stuff. When I was a kid my mom would make quilts and pot holders all year long. She'd take a bunch of them to a pow-wow and give them away to relatives. No particular reason other than it was something they needed. We'd take our old clothes out there and give them away but we'd also come back with clothes that were new to us. If a relative was in trouble, they'd pass the hat and help them out.

We also have traditional ceremonies that are held when appropriate or when the elders tell us they will be held. The best things about my religion are that I'm not tied to a particular building for worship and I'm not a bad person if I miss a ceremony.

It was pretty fecking funny.

Honestly, not much is bugging me about DU these days, to tell the truth -- I guess I'm just not hanging out in GD enough. Also, at this point, I have a pretty sizeable contigent of people on "ignore" and I can't TELL you how much it pleases me when I see two people get into a flamewar, and I can only see half the posts, and the half I CAN see makes it apparent that the other half is illogical, irrational, or stupid. It just affirms my belief in that lil' ol' "ignore" button even more!

No, actually, I'm not in a ranting mood at all. Actually, at this point I'm mostly still tickled pink to not be in LAX at the moment, so everything is good!

46. I think I know how Saddam feels right now
He's knows he's going to die. He doesn't know when but he does know how.

Late last night I got a phone call from my sister. She told me that my dad is dropping by today (fwiw, he can't just "drop by" he lives 350+ miles away :eyes:). I asked when, she wasn't sure. I asked why, she's not sure.

Don't get me wrong, I love my dad. He's a good liberal. He's a Korean War vet who came home and protested other wars, he never wanted other people to go through what he did. He's an ex-high school teacher. He's a lot of things. I love him, I admire him but I can't get along with him. That's fair, he can't get along with me. We've tried. The last time we traveled together, we managed to drive for three hours before we got into a fight and he demanded to be let out of the car. The "fight" was over whether or not the NBA would have had its revival in the 80's if only Bird or Johnson made it to the pros. It was stupid. With anyone else, either of us would have given in on at least one point and laughed it off. But this me and my dad. For some reason, I can't give in and neither can dad. In truth, the only reason we were able to stay in the car that long, alone, was because I was giving in and laughing off his earlier attempts to bait me. At some point I snapped. I held my ground (if only one of them, either one, had been the only one to make it to the pros, their play was exciting enough to have triggered the revival) and we got into a fight.

So, anyway, I know my dad is coming. I don't know why and I don't know when. But I know it isn't going to be good. I'll try. I really will.

48. Already on it
I live in a college town. I wandered over to the next block yesterday to where them thar college kids have a party house and picked something up that has made me feel very mellow. The good news is dad has delayed his trip. I think he finally checked the weather report and decided he didn't want to drive up in the rain.

But, more than anything, I think I just needed to get that little rant out. I was, as my husband likes to say these days, "as nervous as a Republican in the House." My dad has one problem, he's never really gotten over the fact that I was born a girl. Oh well, he's mellowed out a lot since mom died. I've been having a nice holiday period. We had an orphan's Thanksgiving. People dropped in and out all day. We've been going to a lot of holiday parties and running into old friends. It's been so nice I think I was having an anxiety attack all day yesterday waiting for him to pop-up.
