KOEB Meeting 11/11/09 Lou Dobbs Has Lost More Than Just His Teeth Edition
For Keith, in honor of the amazing Mad Men season finale:

And for the ones who helped make it possible for us to post today: those who survived and those who did not.

...I, that on my familiar hill
Saw with uncomprehending eyes
A hundred of Thy sunsets spill
Their fresh and sanguine sacrifice,
Ere the sun swings his noonday sword
Must say goodbye to all of this;--
By all delights that I shall miss,
Help me to die, O Lord.

3. I love him in that three-piece.
The vest is the perfect solution to his tummy problems. :-)

*sigh* I just can't believe these idiots are going to fight even the most watery, toothless health care reform bill tooth and nail as if their very lives depended on it.

People's very lives depend on its PASSING.

48. OMG, I sure hope whoever it is can escape soon.
That is like the worst neighborhood in Cleveland. People ask "Why didn't anyone notice the smell earlier?" Well, when your neighborhood is where everyone else comes to dump their trash, I imagine you get pretty used to horrible smells, and the idea that someone killed 11 people and stashed them in his house is not what first comes to mind.

51. Very true.
Someone said people were saying it smelled like a sausage casing factory, and some DUer's were calling bullshit. Well, I have been in a sausage casing factory, and believe me, it is one of THE foulest smelling places I have ever been in. I've never smelled a dead body, but then, I think most people haven't either.

12. Ed's theory today
was that he was there meeting with the progressives to tell them to chill out and let stuff pass that wasn't great instead of fighting for what's better. I don't know. Is it really possible that the Democrats are going to let themselves stop reform? The thought of that is mind blowing.

6. Hi Berry! The verse you included reminded me of "In Flanders Field"
In Flanders Fields
By: Lieutenant Colonel John McCrae, MD (1872-1918)
Canadian Army

In Flanders Fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.

_______________

Not doing any rah-rah for war; it's just that this poem always touched me when ever I heard it.

:hi: In Canada they have a lovely tradition of wearing poppies this time of year. I mean, everyone wears them everywhere in public, from late October to now. I wish we had that tradition.

Adding my wave, and saying: I remember buying poppies from veterans in school and putting them on my purse, but that was only on Memorial Day. And you didn't see everyone wearing one in public for days on end.

You should be warned: Keith is having Kareem Abdul-Jabbar on and if you haven't heard much about him, you may need to brief yourself.

What he has is very treatable. He is lucky. I am sure he will explain that to Keith.

Oh, and a big  to Cassie, too, the sweetie.

93. Well, you know, it's funny, we talk of "leukemia" and "breast cancer" and "lymphoma" and so on
as if they were one single disease, when actually there are many different kinds. Some are more survivable than others. It appears that Kareem's form of leukemia is highly manageable, but that's obviously not true of everyone's.

It would be great to just wipe all these diseases from the earth once and for all.

85. Thanks Sharon
I'm trying. Feels like I'm taking baby steps.

95. Sometimes baby steps are all you can take.
And yet, put enough of them together and amazingly enough, you make it to the next day. And the next. And the next.

The important point is to know when to step and when to take a rest and be good to yourself.

69. I for one welcome the end of the Loud Dobbs impression.
As well as Mr. Dobbs' show, of course.

and of course, he's right, because he has the highest rated show on the network. What a maroon.

to balance on that stool. Why is he holding on to himself?

91. You got it.
But, seriously, he's not trying to hold himself, he's trying to hold his jacket closed. He's very self-conscious about his tummy when he's seated and not behind a desk. Every time he's on a talk show, he's always fidgeting with his jacket, trying to make it look like it closes better over his tummy.

I'm still glad he chose to give us full-length Keith on stools with Kareem.

96. I have a ton of respect for Kareem.
He's a profoundly decent human being. Back in '98, he coached basketball at the high school on the Fort Apache Reservation. For $1 for the year. He wanted to help. He wrote a book about it.
