Cassie broke her leg last night.
Cassie was out playing with her neighborhood friends at our Sub's Play Area. There's a large slide there. Well, some of the kids thought it would be cool to jump off the TOP of the steps (That's appx. a 7 - 7 1/2ft jump)! Most of the kids were boys and they teased Cassie and called her names for not jumping. Well, needless to say, not wanting to be called names she jumped too. This happened near the end of Countdown.

Cassie suffered a spiral fracture in the right Tibia. Doctors say this is the type of fracture that heals on its own in a cast. She's in a soft cast for now but will be in a hard cast when the swelling subsides. The cast will be on appx. 6 to 8 weeks. We were at Emergency until 2am. Didn't get to bed until after 3. On bed rest right now but we'll work on crutches next week. She's sleeping on and off throughout the day(good drugs). We're all exhausted.

No more camps. No more bike rides. No more play dates for now. Not sure what to do for her birthday coming soon. This was an important life lesson that she learned and she knows it. She's very sorry.

1. Poor Cassie (and mom and dad).
Sounds like it will heal well and cleanly at least. Once she has the hard cast will she be allowed to get around on crutches? You may not be able to keep her down once it is on. That would be a good thing because she won't be so miserable then.

That is a hard way to learn not to let others tease her into doing something she knows not to do but I bet it will stick. *whispers* And might make life a bit easier for the parents when she hits her teen years.

Did you already have birthday plans? If not you might want to make this birthday celebration a family only one and judge what you do by how Cassie feels.

Maybe you can make her laugh a bit and yourself by saying at least she waited until after her recital? She and you didn't end up missing that and we got to see the beautiful young lady in your photo with her flowers.

For Cassie...

17. "Hi" back!
Did you go to Beaumont or Providence? I hope Cassie is feeling a little better tonight. It's a bummer that her summer is ruined!

3. Oh GG
I'm so sorry to hear that. Lots of hugs to your daughter and here's to reading lots of great books this summer.
Down with peer pressure, it causes lots of problems.

4. Hey Gigi, here's some hugs from me for Cassie.

Too bad about the broken leg but as you said she's learned from it. I can't imagine being a cast for the rest of the summer. What a bummer for her.

Big hugs to her and a proper scolding, too, for doing such a silly thing. You're right, though: lesson learned.

14. Alas, dear Cassie and alas, dear Mommy.
What can I do except send hugs to you? Yes, she's learning a lesson about peer pressure the hard way, all right...but at least it'll make a good example to bring up every time in the future that she wants to do something she's not ready for. It's a hard lesson to learn. One of my nieces got her ears pierced years ago because everyone was doing it, then realized she really didn't want to have to deal with the discipline involved in keeping the holes and sanitizing them until they healed. Kids!

Well, here's  from me to you both...and tell her she's welcome to join us for Countdown every night...You might even tell her that Keith himself spent part of last summer in a cast with a cane because of a broken foot!

As for her birthday...I guess it depends on what she feels up to. But the last thing I heard, friends still autographed casts when you had to get one...you can have a hard cast signing party for her birthday, no?

Hope all goes well with the poor thing, and hope you all get some sleep!

23. Dear Cassie,
Oh no! I am so sorry you're hurt! :(
I broke my foot once (12 years ago) by falling down 3 stairs, so I know how painful that can be! x(
But time will go by quickly, and before you know it, you'll be running around again, like these guys: :woohoo:
So feel better soon, do what the doctor says, and listen to your Mom and Dad.
And while you're getting better, I'll be praying for you, too.

Take care, and feel better soon!

Your friend,
Ruth :bounce::bounce:
