From MyDD.com--Blogging tips for framing the discussion
I'm x-posting this from GD:Politics

The name "Bush," not "Republicans," often gets much of the blame directly in the Blogsphere. We must help everyone remember that Bush is a REPUBLICAN president and can't do much with out his friends in the REPUBLICAN controlled congress. So here are my suggestions for bloggers:

  • 1. When referring to Bush, always include the word "Republican" in close proximity to his name as in "Bush and his Republican Culture of Corruption..."

  • 2. When referring to Congress, remember to remind readers that the Legislative Branch is Republican controlled. For example: "Legislators in the Republican controlled Congress today proposed legislation that would cut veteran benefits..."

  • 3. When writing about Bush or Republican leaders like Frist, always include the word "Republican" in association with them. For example, instead of "Majority Leader Bill Frist" use "Republican Majority Leader Bill Frist."

  • 4. When referring to the Republican Party, always start with the words "Republican Party" rather than "GOP." To the less politically aware, the lack of awareness that "GOP" is the Republican Party may be to the Republican's advantage.

All of this is completely obvious to those of us in the Blogosphere, but to those not politically aware the word "Republican" can and should be directly associated with scandal, corruption, and lies. Maybe through simple association, over time we can give the word "Republican" a negative association just as the Right has done to the word "Liberal." At the very least, by simply using the word "Republican" in our work work more, we may help the Republicans more effectively tarnish their party's reputation.

1. Thanks for posting on this...
Thank you for posting this, I have been yelling about how we frame things for a long time...... Thinks I always do on my blog in addition to this.

I always try to have the words “Failed” and “Administration” very close to each other.

If you are going to post something about “Indictments” always make sure that Republican(s) or Bush are right there, So, “We expect to see the indictment of Republican strategist and George Bush’s Chief of Staff Karl Roves any day now”

Also, when you bring up something Democrats are tiring to get done, that is the best time to use “Republican Lead Congress” or “Republican Leadership” , this helps to stop the argument that Democrats are not doing anything. “Democrat Harry Reid’s bill that would have saved Americans from the boggie man was shot down by the Republican lead Congress today” What this does is say, "I fear the boggie man, and the democrats wanted to save me, but the republicans stopped it"

Me personally I have started the “Why do they Hate Americans” theme. We often hear, if anyone criticized this administration, you are always asked “Why do you hate America”, so I take that further, and given the anti-Americans agenda of this republican lead congress, I always post on storing that cut spending to vets, kids, the poor “Why to Republicans hate Americans” .

http://www.bushsamerica.com/index.php/2005/03/02/why_do_you_hate_americans

It is always about hoe you frame the argument, how you spin the facts your way, it is time we do what the main stream media has done for ages, paint the image the way we want it.

2. Birds of a feather...
Edited on Tue Nov-15-05 10:35 AM by displacedtexan
I've already bookmarked this post for this week's DU Blog Box column (every Friday on the DU Homepage).

I also found...

Sean Paul at The Agonist writes:

The President . . .

. . . is a liar. The Democrats did not have the same intelligence as the White House did.

And that's all any Democrat has to say. Don't try to explain it. Don't let the Republicans misdirect you into the details or distract you in any way. Just keep hammering the same line over and over and over because the public already knows it's true: The President is misleading the American people. The Democrats did not have the same intelligence as the White House did.

Note: I hope the brackets work. I'm used to <>.

Rinse and repeat all the way to 2006.
