My son starts track today!
They grow up so fast... My oldest (12 yrs) started his first practice this morning on the track team. He is SO psyched about it!

Thanks, Poiuyt, for your suggestions awhile back. He read through your post & it gave him some things to think about.

Speaking of which - both my boys DID get their black belts about a month ago! :) Me next - I'll be testing in a few more weeks for my probationary black belt, then 4-6 months down the road, I'll test for my black belt, too. *grin*

1. Wish him good luck from all of us!
Track is a wonderful sport, just you and the stopwatch. It's difficult and the races can be painful, but very rewarding. I think much more rewarding than team sports (not knocking those, just that you can't hide behind your teammates when you're on the track). Tell your son to be patient, and to keep persevering when a setback inevitably comes.

2. Good Luck to your son
My son did track from 7th grade through his senior year and then one year of college.....

The "habit" of running never goes away. He still runs at least three days a week and knows how to eat healthy and stay healthy. Track is one of the best things your son can do.

(Oh yeah, one more thing, make lots of room in your house for medals, trophies and certificates!!!)

3. LOL... already have that problem!
We've got medals/trophies & certificates going already, thanks to Tae Kwon Do! :)

Poor guy, he's been sick too, so had to cut back some on track practice. But he was very proud his first day - they ended it with a 1.5 mile run, and he came in 2nd out of all the boys there (ranging from 6th grade to 8th - he is in 6th!). He ran it in just over 8 minutes!

5. Tae Kwon Do!!!!
Interesting....my son did up to black belt BEFORE he got into track....

8 mins for 1.5 miles is damned good!

Tell him to concentrate on the 800M and 400M races and relays....if you can excell there...you OWN the track.....
