UCC General Synod 50th Anniversary gearing up some good speakers!
Just found out today that Chung Hyun Kyung is speaking!!!!!!!!!

I had a couple wonderful classes with her, and a good relationship with her that I won't go into here (no, nothing like that!).

Also having Billy Mills the first and only American athlete to win a gold medal in the 10,000-meter event at the Olympic games.

I wish I could go, but alas, it just ain't in the cards this year.

1. I'm going!! Already have my room reserved, need to make plane
reservations soon. I've been getting e-mails from the conference about the speakers, and I am VERY excited! Other speakers include Bill Moyers, Marian Wright Edelman, Peter Gomes, Lynn Redgrave, Renita Weems and others. Some members of my youth group are excited about Ken Medema being there to perform, although I've warned them that it won't likely be anything like the small venues they've already been with him in (where they spoke with him in workshops, too). Info on speakers here: http://www.ucc.org/synod/pdfs/synodinthecity.pdf

I wish you could go, Rabrrrrr. It'll be the first Synod I've been to with no responsibilities--not a delegate, not a youth adviser, just a visitor (though I will be volunteering at the Christian Vegetarian Association's exhibit table some of the time). So, I can go where I want, attend what workshops and hearings I want, or sleep in through early morning caucuses if I want. Can't wait!!

2. I'm hoping I can go, but I'm not sure yet.
Some folks at church were talking about trying to get a group together to go, but I don't know if that will happen. We're in the Boston area, so it's doable to drive down there, even just for the Saturday events. Many people will have to work that week, so will not be able to do the whole week. I'm still looking for a job, so I have no idea what my time/schedule will look like then. The synod does indeed sound excellent.

3. Just got an e-mail that Barney Frank is speaking
at the Christians for Justice Action banquet at General Synod. Now I've got to go to ucc.org and see if I can get a ticket without being in CJA...or find out how I go about joining CJA!

I really hope I can go; this sounds like it's going to be huge.

6. I'm officially going....my reservations are all made
I made my hotel reservations in January, but for some reason procrastinated about registration and flight reservations. Well, no more. I'm all booked. If I left the day it starts, the only flights were at 6:00 am or in the afternoon. I'd be scared to death that I'd over sleep for the 6 am one, and the afternoon flights would get me there after things started--and I want to be there at the beginning.

So, a friend suggested that I go a day early, and maybe do some tourist things beforehand--the Harriet Beecher Stowe house or something. That's what I decided to do.

It's all decided, on my credit cards, ready to go!! Just as I sat here feeling all decisive and prepared, I realized that, if I leave on the 21st, I'll miss church council that night. Hmmm...something new to worry about.

But my plans are made. Most likely.

Critters,
only procrastinating up to a point
