i took some advice i got from a photography forum and try for better bunting pics. I think these are much better
i turned off autofocus and instead used manual focus

all these are taken with a sigma 150-500 lens and a 1.4 teleconverter

1. You lucky lucky energetic and persistent dog you! I love painted buntings, have
never seen one, in three and a half years since I've been here this is the second only time we had a photographer present them here.
Forget who was the first time. Was it you?

I love both posts and you are right these are even "more better" and when I have time, maybe later tonight, I'll show you the painted bunting that lives at my house.
Really.

The last two!! I'M SO PROUD for you.

5. Not a photo of the real thing...Here are my own painted buntings as promised
There is a screen print artist, Charles Harper, who does wonderful serigraphs of wild life.
These are his "Painted Buntings" I have owned the print since it first came out, maybe 35 years ago.

Hope you like it, for me it is a thrill to see your photos for obvious reasons

6. cool picture...
i had never heard of paonted buntings until i moved to texas. so many new birds here to try and get pictures of. next up i want to get a shot of a golden cheeked warbler. I know a place they supposedly nest but its about a 75 minute drive from my house and it would mean hiking on a trail carrying a heavy camera bag in 100 degree heat

The bird is wonderfully framed by the tree branches. Very lovely photo.
