Just for the beauty of it - Castle in Saxony , in the former East Germany
Castle is named Pillnitz and I think I could find some peace of mind in that setting

from my traveling iphone friend this morning, he has talked about wanting to come to our forum, so just pretend, for now, that he already did.
:)
And Dixiegrrrrl, let's print WannaJump"s money picture and take a trip.

1. My dear Mira...
Ah, that's lovely!

It is a tad big...can you resize it?

There is something so relaxing about these big, old estates, isn't there?

Thanks for sharing!

2. Here you go - I left it up large - also,
In the smaller version (it's a photo from a phone) the resolution is not good enough to show the beauty of the captured light as well.
It is so serene, isn't it.

4. You know, I'm not dead sure. I know he has a blackberry.
And I'm confusing that with an iphone because my kid keeps sending stuff from his iphone.
Now the question is how does he get it on his blackberry? Bet he can upload it from his (stupid) digital camera with NO VIEWFINDER.
I hate those cameras.
But he keeps sending them, three already today, and they are making me a little Germany sick.
Home sick is what I get when I'm in Germany.

5. "Impressionistic" is the exact word I've been thinking. (Yes, I'm a fan of the impressionists.)

It's the color as well as the "brush strokes" ... since there's 'something' that gives these photos (from that iPhone?) a texture that really evokes the impressionist style.

It's puzzing to me ... and I thought perhaps there might be some post-processing ... but it's a common 'feel' to each of the photos Mira posted.

There's something about the whites (in the clothing and highlights) that strongly reminds me of the whites used by the impressionists, I think.

6. I'm glad you like them, and you are right about the resemblance. It's uncanny.
If something else special comes in I'll post it. The last one was of a huge pileup on the Autobahn.

7. I just now noticed another thing that evokes the "impressionist" style.
Edited on Sat Aug-15-09 10:52 AM by TahitiNut
It's the flat depth-of-field.

Since everything is equally 'fuzzy' (a grained/pixellated coarseness) it seems to resemble a canvas and brush strokes.

I really like the effect. The framing and subject matter conspire to reinforce the affect, too.

8. you know the impressionists
and the photographers of the day were best of friends, and there was lots of cross-over between them, their shows were in the same places and they lived in the same slums

the flat dof is a key to it, yes
