A question about the legal position re posting pictures of strangers
Don't you need to get a written authorization from anyone whose picture you're publishing?

1. You need permission for selling.

2. OK, thanks
I wasn't trying to be snarky or anything, it's just that I was researching selling pictures and I remembered about getting permission. I wasn't sure about posting on a website.

3. It is something I have at times wondered about, since becoming a participant
in the Photo Forum.
I think Tekisui is correct in the bottom line being money.
But of course there also is decorum and taste and human consideration.
So, I made a personal decision that if a person is in public, and does not know I took the photo, then it's kind of like being on a street, and on a street you are seen.
If they know I took the photo, then I usually asked them first and gave a reason for wanting it that will appeal to them as well.
And I hope they don't find out and NOT like it, but they could do nothing about it if they don't.

I often, often, take pictures, with permission because I promise I will send them to them by email and I always do. Like the little boy with the ice-cream cone I posted today (end of the submission thread) I got to take his picture because I asked permission and got the email address.

The only one I don't feel comfortable about is family.
I hope to this very moment my son did not discover I posted a few photos of his wedding.

:)

4. I can read "energy" from people's photos
That's one reason I feel a bit uncomfortable about pictures of strangers. Thank goodness, though, I have to purposefully do it-- it isn't automatic. So, no, I haven't done energetic readings on any of our strangers. Sometimes I will do it with public figures. Don't ask about Dick Cheney.

5. the rule in the US is...
public place, public face

now, that applies to editorial use, not commercial

contests, especially those without cash awards are considered to be editorial, as i am sure ours would be considered.
