~~~ Contest theme suggestions for next month needed ~~~
Have no specific suggestions myself, other than to urge that people try to think in terms of the basic building blocks of photography: light, color, aperture, exposure time, focal length. It would be nice to see a really basic nuts'n'bolts photographic theme this time. But that's just me. Have at it, everyone.
I'll post a poll when we hit 10 suggestions. Or maybe before.
1. Produce?
Just because there's so much right now.
Or twilight shots while it's nice to be out later.
For some future month (not right now because we just did buildings), re-purposed buildings; buildings that clearly used to be one thing and are now, clearly, being used for something else.
4. I'm still learning how to use a camera...
with actual controls, so anything would be interesting, really.
9. I like the idea of basics, but
I'd like to see something without "scenics" (no contests dominated by majestic scenery shots for a while) The last contest was great, even if I didn't have time between work and moving to find time to go shoot something to enter.
Almost every camera has some close up ability, if not total macro, so why not:
Let's get small! (with apologies to Steve Martin)
or
It's a Small World (no apologies to the evil Disney empire)
either way...photos of little things or close ups.
Just my $0.02
10. Another thought...in response to COLOR
This is the time of the season for some, but not all, depending on your geographic location.
I know it's not in the spirit of the previous winner picking the theme, but how about a November contest theme of "Fall Color"?
For some, they'd need to start shooting close to now, and the farther south you go, the "best color" will appear later and later. I know for example the Smokies are traditionally best around the 3rd week in October, etc.
Kind of long range in planning, but gives everyone a chance to get off a good shot no matter where they happen to be geographically.
Thoughts?
11. That's a good idea.
It doesn't look like we're likely to have interesting leaf color in NYC within the next few weeks.
Happy to do macro, by the way.
12. I like both the colour and macro suggestions.
If you haven't noticed by now, I love colour. Also, my mum has a fancy camera with a macro lens that none of us know how to use properly. I'm going to ask if I can borrow it. These contests, no matter the theme, will be incentive to figure out how it works.
13. I too like the macro idea...
I love playing with that on my camera!
Enthusiastic vote for macro!
14. I'll keep this thread open until tomorrow night or if we get 10 before that
If I'm counting right, there are six ideas so far, and I like that some of them overlap to a degree.
17. That'll do it.
Poll coming soon, if DU's current pace allows it.
