Miami pre-election photos (updated)
Edited on Fri Dec-17-04 05:11 PM by RagingInMiami

At the Kerry speech when Bruce Springsteen joined him onstage. I didn't have my telephoto lens, so all I could get was this, but I like the buildings in the background.

A right-wing Cuban in Little Havana who didn't like his picture taken by a guy wearing a Kerry button. They had gathered in Versailles, one of Miami's most popular Cuban restaurants, to view the anti-Kerry film, "Stolen Honor: Wounds That Never Heal".

These two photos came out a little over-exposed, but I really like the action in them. Here we have a female Bush supporter getting in the face of a group of Kerry supporters in Coconut Grove. You can see the Miami cop running to the scene to try and break it up. I like the shiny badge.

Right-wing Cubans cheering after intimidating a much smaller group of Latino Kerry supporters into scurrying back into their campaign office in Little Havana.

1. Great to finally see them...
I sense a lot of action and tension...as with your other photos, I like how you contrast the bigness and beauty of the city with the close ups of human conflicts. Keep on Raging!

(BTW have you ever considered posting those pic of the homeless up in GD, I think more should see them. Not everyone makes it down to the Photo group.)

2. Thanks again for the compliments
I'm actually working a self-assigned project about the homeless in Miami. I would like to maybe one day publish a photo book about it. Those were my first photos and they'll be more to come.

3. Great shots, RaginginMiami !
I was there for the Springsteen event! I was standing on a railing between the poles to the left of the flag on the top right of your photo. I was there on many an occasion in Little Havana too. (I live nearby.)

The Sunday before the election, I dropped off some extra Kerry gear at the Little Havana office and saw a similar bunch of Bush fans in front of the Versailles restaurant. There were only 2 Kerry supporters with signs on the sidewalk across the street. Ever-ready, I got my 4 picket signs from the car, and now we each had 2. Cars were steaming by with lots of Kerry signs and bumper stickers. Many stopped and parked and joined our group. Before we knew it, there were dozens on our side. They had more, but we had a bullhorn. I found myself shouting out phrases in Spanish that I didn't quite understand. The one that seamed to shut them up for awhile was "Boosh la Vienda Castro!!" (Bush sells to Castro!!} It was my favorite impromptu honk & wave.

Your photos are priceless memories for me!

4. How do you look like?
I just might have photos of you. I took a bunch of photos during the days leading up to the election and even on election night, when we were convinced Kerry had won. Stupid us, going by the exit polls.
Do you remember anyone taking photos when you were there?
Thanks for the compliment.

5. Yes, someone was there taking photos.
I too was convinced that Kerry had won that night. I still believe that he did. I wonder if the MSM will ever give Conyers the exit poll data.

By the way, most of the time during the Little Havana event I was standing next to a man with a white fold-out (science board type) poster. It was full of things written in Spanish.

Thanks for looking through your photos. I sent you a pm.
