No Northern Lights, BUT
here are a few night shots, nonetheless. We chased the aurora until 2:00 a.m. last night, and although we found clear places away from the fog patches, the illusive northern lights stayed illusive. I did get a chance to work on exposure though, so...

Here's a shot of Anchorage under the fog.

And these are from the spot where we should have seen the aurora if it had been out. The lights in the sky are reflections from Anchorage and Eagle River.

I haven't given up on the northern lights, though. 'Tis the season, and they're bound to show up sooner or later.

2. You're welcome, Whoa...
Sorry I couldn't come up with any northern lights for you. It seems like they always show up when I don't have a camera with me, and when I go looking for them, they're nowhere to be found.

As for Anchorage's growth, you wouldn't recognize the place. Most of the changes have definitely been for the better, though. A lot of neighborhood renewal going on, especially in Mountain View, Fairview and Spenard.

3. Well, there you are...
I heard they showed up at 2:30 and you only stayed until 2:00.

4. That's probably true...

Every time I see pictures in the newspaper or on the news of people's aurora shots, they were usually taken at like 3:00 in the morning or something and out in the middle of nowhere. I always wonder how those people get out there so far and how they keep warm. Since we were about 35 miles out of town and it was close to zero, and considering HullBoss was already falling asleep on the couch before we even left, we just decided it was wiser to give up and come on home. If it had been just me, I probably would have sat out there until the sun came up (around 10:15 a.m.), but HullBoss won't let me drive so far out of town by myself at night. :( Over-protective, I say, but there's no arguing with him when it comes to my safety.

5. Wow
Spectacular pictures!

So if the sun comes up at 10:15, when does it set?

6. The sun sets about 3:30 now.
Just a few more days and we'll start adding seconds back on. By spring the days lengthen by more than five minutes a day. It's really noticeable -- and most welcome. At least we're not like Barrow where the sun doesn't rise for two and a half months.
