Meccan Colonialism
With respect to the Middle East, one reads about European colonialism, but rarely or never reads about Meccan colonialism. Why?

Some possible reasons:

The caliphate no longer exists.

The caliphate periodically moved rather than remaining fixed in Mecca.

In the long run, an empire that imposes its religion on people elicits gratitude rather than resentment.

1. Muslims who conquered Jerusalem in 637 AD are not known
as "crusaders." Is there any name for the conquest of Jerusalem in 637 AD or for those who launched that conquest?
