I'm going to volunteer
I just called up the suicide prevention hotline and asked them about volunteering for one of their crisis line positions. I told them that I am available on the weekends and they said they had a need to fill those shift spots.

I still have to jump through a couple of hoops. There is an application that I have to fill out and I have to go through a lot of training if that's approved. But they really need people so I think I'm in there.

You all may know about my experiences with mental illness. When I was in the hospital the last time (4.5 years ago), I was really impressed with the doctors, nurses, therapists, and even the orderlies. I was so grateful for those people. When I got out of the hospital I vowed to do something to give back to the mental health community. I tried going back to college to learn psychology, but it turned out that I just was not college material.

This is my way of saying thank you to all of those who help people like me. I am going to be one of them now.

2. Wonderful action taken, Droopy.
I hope that it will help you feel more connected, and give you joy in helping those in similar circumstances that many of us here have been through.

Best of luck with the selection and training!

You will be great at this, Droopy!
