Coverage of the Installation of Benedict XVI.
I understand that the installation of Benedict XVI will be broadcast today. One of our local public television stations announced that it was preempting previously scheduled programming and airing the BBC coverage of today's events in Rome. I'll be taping it.

Here's the link to that particular PBS station.

You can go to www.pbs.org for your local stations.

What's not yet clear to me is what the other stations will be showing. Any comments, tips, observations from our posters here?

1. You can watch several reruns on EWTN throughout the day.

2. I watched it live, sort of bouncing between MSNBC & CNN..
it was well attended & nice but not quite as majestic as JPII's funeral but that was to be expected. Doing these services outside was a great idea, especially seeing the panoramic views.

The only problem is that they were understandably translating the service, which was mostly in Latin, into english. They didn't for the 'Our Father' however; I guess they figured if you were interested in the service, you would know what that was.

The cantor singing wasn't as good. That priest who sang the Litany of the Saints for JP's funeral had such a beautiful voice.

One interesting thing was that before the service started, they showed old clips (on MSNBC, I think) of news reports on the deaths of some of the prior popes, the simplicity of JP I's installation and the shock of his quick death followed by the shock of a Polish pope. Tom Brokaw practically had a Beatle's style hair-do in the old tapes.

Quite a few stations showed it live here in NYC. The CBS, ABC & NBC locals did, as did CNN & MSNBC.
