and on discredited reports. (Of course.) The Iraqis were a big threat because they had chemical weapons and could do really bad things. That's why we went. (Too bad we never found any of these Ricky. they must have been magic weapons that came and went at need.)

There were no weapons of mass destruction. Everyone knows this Ricky. It has been proven that there weren't any. Tell me you are going to bring that weak-ass argument out to support the war.

Wow! Now we have a new document, released from the DoD that says: we found a trace of chemical weapons. It's been under wraps for years because we didn't need it until the Kerry/Feingold amendment came out and we needed to save our asses.

Even if there were weapoms of mass destruction and we found that Saddam was really OBL's father and the real head of Al Qaeda - it doesn't change where we are now. (It would have some impact on Bush's place in history - he would merely be incompetent.

The argument here is what is the best thing to do - and Santorum didn't answer that. (Teresa described him well as Forrest Gump with attitude.)

P.S. I pulled up the front page of the NYT - no story. You would think this would it would be a huge story. By the way the NYT article is labelled something like Republicans criticize the Democrats plan. Most of the quotes are Republican.

debate in the Senate, because that's what they are sent by their people to do. Defending Kerry so far, but can't support substance of amendment.

His speaking style is so different from everyone else's. But he can really drive home a point. It's nice to have him on the side of the Angels in this debate.

He is making the case that the Iraqis want us to get serious and get a plan together to get out of
Iraq. The Iraqis do recognize that the US occupation of Iraq is driving the insurgency.

Sen. Byrd is commending Sen. Kerry for bringing this issue forward. It deserves to be discussed. Last week Sen. McConnell knifed Kerry by bringing the withdrawal measure up for purposes of ridicule (basically.)

Sen. Byrd voted not for the issue at the heart of the withdrawal debate, but to prolong debate. (Oh dear, maybe Sen. Byrd is not 'with us' on this.) The point is valid because the Rethugs are trying to hide and distort the very idea of debating the Iraq occupation.

Sen. Byrd does not support the Kerry amendment. But he is a class act. He commended Sen. Kerry for his courage in bringing it forward. (Sen. Byrd does talk like a Senator.)

reminds me of an 83 year-old (Kerry loving) friend I have. Maybe it's a generational speech style. I think she's originally form Virginia which could also explain the similarities. (I know he's from West Virginia.)

The way the Rethugs have shut down debate and marginalized the process is horrible. They are obviously afraid that the argument might actually harm them, so they are doing everything they can to ridicule it and make it go away.

Thanks Sen. Byrd. Even though he is not voting for K/F/B, he is stating a strong defense of the debate and the importance of discussing the occupation.
