my review of "An Inconvenient Truth"
We went last night. My husband was afraid that it would be too disturbing, but went anyway to please me. He ended up liking it; it was factual and focused on its message, but not depressing. You leave the theater with the idea that there are several things you can do to make it better, and they even had a one-page handout with a list of things citizens can do.

Gore comes off as a smart and likeable guy, but very much the ex-politician that he really is these days. He has a big megaphone from being the VP and is using it for this cause. I'd bet a large amount of money against his ever running for office again. But there are always going to be those who see a fantasy version of Gore and won't accept that.

I learned a few new things. I learned that we can expect more tornadoes here in the Midwest :( And that Europe is even more vulnerable to climactic changes than we are, given all the coastal areas they have. I learned that global warming is mostly the Northern Hemisphere's fault, because that's where most of the land mass is. And even though China and other countries are industrializing, they are generally far more receptive to preventing more CO2 emissions than the U.S. is, and we are still far and away the worst cause of the problem--causing over 30% of the emissions.

Everyone should see this movie. Don't be afraid--it has a hopeful message. Democrats are strong, optimistic people. :)

I've been wavering on seeing it - but I think I will go. We just got back from a get-out-of-the-heat Father's Day matinee of A Prairie Home Companion (fun, especially if you're an Altman fan, and it wouldn't hurt to like old-timey music as well).

Before the movie they showed a preview of an upcoming film, Who Killed the Electric Car? It looked fascinating - another one to put on the list.
