Kerry speaks at Hecht Memorial

I know we all know the story about how Sen. Kerry saved former Sen. Chic Hect's life in 1988 - it's nice to see that JK was asked to speak at Hect's memorial service on Wednesday. IMO this speaks volumes about the character of both men, even though I really know nothing about Sen. Hect.

Friends and family of former Nevada Senator Chic Hecht gathered for a memorial service Wednesday.

Hecht served one term in the U.S. Senate after pulling off a long-shot victory over in 1982.

In 1988, Kerry saved Hecht's life when he administered the Heimlich maneuver as Hecht was choking on a piece of apple. The two stayed in touch since the incident.

Kerry praised the Hecht's advocacy on behalf of Soviet Jews and said he "knew the value in politics of being underestimated."
