Questions regarding JK.com emails not received
Edited on Sat Feb-11-06 01:37 PM by kerrygoddess
From what I understand they're not finding any major database problems but there have been problems with delivery to Yahoo and Hotmail accounts.

Those of you who are not getting the emails - do you have Yahoo or Hotmail accounts? Also if you have spam filters/folders you should double check to make sure that "[email protected]" is not in your blocked list.

I posted this over at the Dem Daily forum too. Let me know via PM there if you can what your email address is that is registered with JK.com and I will pass the info along.

edited to add: the more info I can give them the better...

1. I don't have either accounts and I find nothing wrong with my
spam/filters/folders either. I was receiving these and now I am not.

2. Hmmm
If you don't mind popping over to the DD Forum and PM-ing your email address that is registered with them, I will compile a list to send to them to cross check.

I've been very busy lately and not had much time to check in here, so it's easier to contact me through the DD cause all PM's get emailed to me from there and a link to my email addy is posted on the blog.

Do you have any idea how long it takes to get added? I have resent them info about two weeks ago. Also, Vector was working on this too.

Also, I have not received any e-mails through Friends of John Kerry either. Are they utilizing FOJK any longer?

4. I have Comcast...
...and my e-mail from johnkerry.com has stopped. Have they had any delivery problems with Comcast? I also used to get regular e-mail from the GLIBS during the recount...that stopped, too. I have inquired from Comcast whether they are blocking (via spam filtering) email from johnkerry.com. I'll let you know what I find out. Thanks, KG, for checking up on this. I MISS MY KERRY EMAIL!!! :7

6. I just finished live chat with Comcast.
I am not filtering any e-mail. I have also e-mailed their blacklist to see if the Senator's e-mail has been accidentally blocked. I hope to hear back soon.
I don't believe it's just Comcast customers who are having this problem, though. I'd rather not jump to any conclusions or place any blame.
I wonder if there are errors being returned? That would be helpful to know.

8. Thank you...
...I don't want to jump to conclusions either...just eliminating variables!:7 I don't think I am purposefully blocking anything either...but I'm not that technologically inclined.:7

5. Fastmail is free and I've had no problems
Of course there are tags on outgoing emails if you only use the free service, but if you want to be sure of getting JK's emails I suggest signing up with Fastmail. I got a new fastmail account and signed up for JK emails and started getting them right away.

www.fastmail.fm

or go direct to signin page:

https://www.fastmail.fm/mail/?MLS=LN-*;UDm=49;MSignal=SI-*N-1*1

(copy and paste the whole thing...I guess DU doesn't understand it)

Of course JK's people need to figure out what is the problem and if there's anything they can do about it, but in the meantime you all could be getting the mails.

I liked fastmail enough to sign up for one of the paid packages....

7. Just checking back in on this
Large databases often experience issues with mass emailings - it's very common. A while back I know I didn't get the emails from JK.com and others also did not. I also remember this happening a few times during the campaign.

Again the more info I can pass along the better, including email addresses of those not receiving the emails.

9. A common thread here
Out of those who have spoken up about not getitng the emails I have 3 who are ComCast users. It could be that ComCast blacklisted the IP. It happens frequently with IP's that send bulk emails. The big ISP's don't like that stuff, they often read it as SPAM.

10. Could it be political?
Mixing up Comcast with Cablevision, which gave a huge amount of money to a McCain campaign finance reform PAC (that mostly puts out stuff about McCain.), I wondered if it could be political. Before I realised I had the company wrong, I googled "MCCain ConCast contributions". Although they gave to both sides, look at their President's contributions.

Getting Contributions
$10,000-Senate Minority Leader Tom Daschle (D-SD)
$5,000-Sen. (and Commerce Chair) John McCain (R-AZ)
$5,000-House Majority Leader Tom DeLay (R-TX)
$5,000-House Telecommunications Subcommittee Chair Fred Upton (R-MI)
$5,000-House Energy and Commerce Committee Chair Joe Barton (R-TX)
$5,000-House Energy and Commerce Committee Ranking Member John Dingell (D-MI)

$200,000-plus to Bush-Cheney re-election campaign from Stephen Burke, president, Comcast Cable.

Comcast's PAC gave $599,372 to candidates in 2002 and $424,159 in 2003.
