Kerry Spokesman David Wade Responds to RNC Attack Ad
Kerry Spokesman Responds to RNC Attack Ad
December 9th, 2005

The RNC has released a new web ad today on the “Democrats’ Plan For Iraq” titled ‘Retreat ‘and Defeat‘. The ad is being sent to RNC supporters, grassroots activists and all of the GOP State Parties. It highlights attacks from the RNC on statements by Democratic leaders Howard Dean, Barbara Boxer and John Kerry.

Kerry spokesman David Wade issued this statement in response to the RNC ad which the GOP Blog describes as showing a “white flag of surrender waving over Democrats”:

“The only shots these Republican hacks have ever fired are from their computers, so they might not know that the flag that flew over John Kerry’s boat in Vietnam was red, white, and blue.

Only in Dick Cheney’s party would a vice president who skipped Vietnam on five deferments allow an attack on a veteran with 3 Purple Hearts. They want a debate about patriotism? Bring it on.

These Republicans who misled America into war and sent our troops into battle without body armor have no shame and even less credibility. The President’s lapdogs should spend more time trying to succeed in the war in Iraq and less time waging a war of words against a Senator who fights for our troops.”

Obviously our Democratic leaders and the growing public consensus against the Iraq war has got the RNC running scared — one could even say Democrats have “terrorized” the Republicans.

1. that RNC ad is a waste of money, IMO
The only ones they are going to "convince" will be the 25% who are already in their corner. I think realities on the ground are going to trump any rhetoric they can spew.

2. Honestly, these are just so great!
No one else has been as flat-out snarky back to the bastards in the RNC as David Wade has on behalf of his boss. I just love these comments. Honestly, if I see him Sunday, the first round is on me.

3. Has a party in control of Congress and the Presidency
Edited on Fri Dec-09-05 10:46 PM by karynnj
ever 11 months before an election put out an attack ad on the head of the opposing party, the previous Presidential candidate and other leaders? I really think it's unheard of. I hope this is over reaching. I hope even the out of context Kerry comment is understandable. It may well be because it is easily understood.

4. I was thinking along the same lines
This seems mighty strange to me, more like something you would see during a campaign.
Not now. They must be pretty worried about their party to do this now.

5. Oh, I think this is going to get much worse.
Edited on Fri Dec-09-05 10:37 PM by TayTay
The Rethugs are in real trouble and they sense that they have problems in the mid-terms next year. They are going to what they do best: attack, attack, attack. Their point will be what it always is, no matter what we did, those guys are worse. It's what they do.

I predict it will get much, much worse. These are not people who ever intend to give up power. They believed they were building a lasting majority that would prevail in Congress (and probably the White House) for the foreseeable future. There is no way they are going to give that up without firing every nasty piece of ammo they have. This is just the opening salvo.

Next year is going to be even nastier than 2004 was. Nothing is off the table for the Rethugs, everything, including family, is fair game for them. That's why it's so important for Sen. Kerry and others to get ready to fight back.

Put your flak jackets on and get out your good mud boots, this is not going to be for the squeamish. This is all out war.

8. Why does this seem like a bad science fiction movie?
You wonder how the people who choose to fight have the strength. Kerry has dealt with these guys for so many years. But I guess we should look at whose team is getting indicted versus who has a virtually scandal free past. It may be naive, but I think it's significant that Inus's Charles was so supportive on this - he's always seemed quite conservative, but it seemed he totally saw what Kerry meant and he seemed almost angry at the cheap shots.

The big question is whether the media will show any bravery. (It scares me that they are shifting PBS and that they eliminated Rather.

10. It's going to be a battle
They are going to be fighting the stigma of six current indictments and one guilty plea, with more on the way.

I really see it getting nasty.

6. They don't understand governing... only campaigning.
If they understood properly what to do with the power they wield, they wouldn't have to strike out 11 months before the election... or if they were actually governing, they wouldn't have time to have meetings about this.

Idjits.

7. Too true.
All they want is to hold onto power. The only way they know how to do this is to destroy the opposition. Nasty, nasty stuff.

9. That's true
Do you you think that John and Teresa ever wish that he had decided against a run?

11. No, not on your life.
Although I'm willing to bet it was worse for Teresa. She is such a great lady and the way in which she was treated was so unfair. I think Sen. Kerry understands that these people have to be fought and that they will do whatever it takes to retain power. I think he has been fighting these people too long to quit now.

But I think it's hard on his family. On the ohter hand, he really looked great today. The fight, at this point in time, just might be agreeing with him.

13. Well, it is true that he always fought them
Now that they are stronger than ever, I doubt he could avoid fighting them. I think you're right that they were far worse to Teresa.

12. I hope not. I still think his campaign was
important and that it will be shown, eventually, that he did win. Despite the fact that he is not president right now, his opinion and his take on foreign affairs does carry a lot of weight in the country. We need his leadership right now and if he hadn't run for office, we wouldn't even have that.
