5. I persuaded my husband into getting there an hour early

Strangely, I didn't realize it was outside the restaurant and remembered even their larger rooms as not huge. The restaurant was originally a mansion from colonial times. In fact, Kerry mentioned that the owner - who he thanked for hosting it - made a point of showing him Phoebe's room. Phoebe, now a ghost, was a young maid in the home who was murdered by a crazed handy man.

I knew some of the county Democrats from last year - so I was talking to them and then later to friends who I had seen for years who showed up. Eric and I staked out a great position and didn't move. The two guys in front of me stayed far enough apart so I could easily get between them.

The hardest part was that it was very very sunny. They placed poor Kerry looking straight into the sun. It made sense because we were in an area usually used for out door eating that was about 1 1/2 ft lower than where he was - there was a tiny less than 1 foot fence at the edge of the higher area, which worked well. This area is hilly -

In fact Morristown may be the location of the first American make work project. A steep hill was the highest point in the area - from the top you can see all the way to NYC or to the nearest ridge of the Watchung Mts. The British wintered in NYC and areas east of the Watchungs. The Americans spent 2 winters in Morristown in an area that is a National Park called Jockey Hollow. The Americans had to be on the lookout to avoid sneak attacks.

One year as spring approached, some of the soldiers were restless doing nothing and wanted to go back home to plant. Fearing they would never be seen again, they were put to work building a fort on the small top of Ft Nonsense, which they would soon be leaving. There was no reason for it - and the soldiers' view of things is reflected in the name it has been called for centuries. (Nothing other than a plaque remains, a fact Morristown for years neglected to mention in describing its many historical sites. The view is great from there.)

The only downside was getting sun burned, because we didn't think to put on sunscreen.

Just passing it along. Someone had to give me instructions too!! And the payoff was great - you really got some wonderful pictures. And I can't tell you how happy it makes me that all those people came out to see him and still believe in him. Take that, freepers!!

10. You know, outside of DU and Kos,

I think the Senator is much loved among Dems. Or at least very well liked. Most of my Dem friends still believe. Some were a little pissed after the election, not so much because of the concession, but just because we lost. They're recovering, though, and they still believe he'd be an excellent pres.
Is that typical? Hard to say with only DU, which is very judgemental, the Kerry group who love him because we know, the media who shift in the wind, and my own friends as benchmarks.
My heart is set on '08. I just can't help it. Will Mr. Kerry be our next POTUS, and what do we need to do to make sure that happens?
I think I'm ready to put the K'08 bumper sticker on my car, too.

11. To get 500 Morris county residents out for a Democrat

who is not running for office is amazing. T get that many people for an event publicized on Thursday by email to Kerry's list and the canned phone calls to county Democrats is amazing. This is a busy time of year, with school having just started earlier this week here. (We start later than many states.)

Not all the people would necessarily support Kerry in 2008 - but they wouldn't be there if they didn't like him. I don't know if Morristown was unusual -

My overriding memory of that day in April is also of the 'Medford ladies' and how they were disappointed they didn't get to see Teresa. These older gals from working-class Medford really liked her. They thought she was a straight-shooter who told hard truths and who was a gracious and elegant woman who would have made a fine First Lady for America. It was so funny to see someone say, 'Well, if Teresa can't be here, then I guess the sitting US Senator from MA and former nominee for Pres will have to do.' LOL! That struck my funny bone. And Mr. Kerry gave a very serious speech, especially considering it was an event to honor the writing of kids.

And I noticed a pattern in his speeches which is still there. But it is getting better. Mr. Kerry has refined his list of things to be done. I still love the 'felt needs' thing and it is a great thing to be saying right now, when it is obvious that he is/was right. There are a hell of a lot of Americans who looked at the poor of New Orleans and the horrors they went through and thought, "There but for the grace of gawd go I." If the 'felt needs' ideas doesn't dovetail nicely into that, then I don't know what does.

I hadn't picked up that they were from a blue collar area.
In the vast array of stuff I read last year, someone wrote that the reason the Republicans and their allies in the media hit Teresa so hard was that she completely validated Kerry. Seeing her for what she really is would shatter the image of Kerry (that was 180 degrees off) that they wanted to create. No way would she have married or even spent more than say 15 minutes talking to the caricature they created.

We've had lots of Kerry was right threads, but Teresa was sure right on the "Four more years of hell!" Although very greedy considering being able to see Kerry, I would absolutely love to see Teresa speak.

I think you're right about the felt needs dovetailing nicely. With troubled people, there are some who say that they need to hit bottom before seeking help to get better. I think the US may have hit bottom and people can see that they NEED government. No one, no matter how self-sufficient in N.O. could deal with the break of the levees independently. Only government could have strengthened the levees or done the work to restore the marshes and the barrier beaches. This goes beyond the seediness of the Bushes (exposed almost as much by Barbara as by W) or the Religious right extremists, to the root of conservative philosophy.

It also seems that Kerry is the person talking to those with needs, hoping to help them find ways to make themselves heard and to guide them in how they can petition their government. He seems to be trying to do, in a genuine way - real trying to empower people, what Trippi had Dean do in a theatrical way.
