Kerry gives commentment address for Maritine graduates
Edited on Sun Jun-19-11 04:19 PM by karynnj

Sen. John Kerry delivered the commencement address, which focused on the state of national politics. He encouraged the graduates to face the challenges before them with innovation and cooperation.

"America is exceptional because we do exceptional things," said Kerry, who has helped spearhead the effort to bring Navy ROTC to the academy's campus.

"Exceptionalism is not a birthright, it is an inheritance of opportunity," Kerry said, urging the graduates to put America back on top and talking about the opportunities that are available if we accept them and meet challenges head on.

U.S. Senator John Kerry, D-MA, told the gathering of graduates, parents and friends that MMA is a step closer to securing a Naval Reserve Officer Training Program on the Taylors Point campus.

Kerry was at times in his address funny, humble and determined, telling the graduates to make sure their voices are heard so that America can resume leadership roles in the 21st century in terms of finance, security, technology, infrastructure upgrades and achievement.

“Look at how we did all this before,” Kerry said, mentioning the point that 65 percent of the solar-technology manufacturing is done in China now, based on research at the Bell Labs in this country.

Kerry followed suit. “There are a million people up Boston, honoring the Bruins and you’re stuck here with John Kerry,” he said. “But this is an incredible place to go to school; this is a great site for any sailor’s eyes.”

Both nice articles, the second's comments are a sewer - not even worth going into! Either that or I am just too tired of the base puerility of the RW bloggers - saying the same tired stupid things - from his purple hearts, to his wealthy wife to not doing anything (as if any of them were war heroes or elected state wide 6 times or nearly President).

1. Mass Maritime Academy is a great place
.. with, among other things, a cool and interesting curriculum in environmental science.
I'm really, really glad to know that he spoke there. It sounds like his speech was extremely appropriate for the audience, and the occasion.

2. My nephew is an MMA grad
Late 1990s ... I don't remember a cool speaker like JK at the ceremony ... and they had Linda Greenlaw this year, too.

Wow. Lucky grads!
