Way OT - My niece just got her PhD
She defended her dissertation today, I am so excited and proud. But the question, I have no clue when to send a gift. Is there an official ceremony? How does this work? She's going to be a school psychologist. I'm sending her my mother's briefcase, just for sentimental purposes. Any other ideas for a special gift?

What a wonderful sentimental gift, linking generations.

I would think that anytime now that she has completed all the requirements is fine. I think PHD's are granted their degrees at the the same ceremony as other degrees are awarded, but it might vary by school.

I am at a loss for a special gift. You might ask her parents if there is anything they know of.

4. It'll be in August
I don't exactly know why that month, but my sister let me know that's when she gets the paper and that's when the celebrating commences. It's only been 9 years, you'd think I would have thought of a gift by now, lol.
