Book tour: Who is going to the Cambridge reading?
http://www.harvard.com/events/press_release.php?id=1822

Event Information
DATE: Saturday, April 21st
TIME: 12:00 PM
LOCATION: Memorial Church
Harvard Yard
Cambridge
TICKETS: Tickets cost $5.00 and are available at the store or over the phone with a credit card at 617-661-1515

I hesitated between this and Washington in May, but it turns out that a flight to Boston in April is cheaper and I would love to come over for a few days. Are there any plans for a little group outing yet? And if yes, could I probably join in?

4. I just called the bookstore. .
We won't be able to order the tickets, even by phone, until the tickets are physically in the bookstore. The tickets are expected in "3 or 4 days" from today (Friday). Yes, we're hoping to put a group together, perhaps to do something afterwards???? (I'm up for anything). Do be sure to pm or email Tay Tay and Dwahzon so that they know you're coming.

5. Thanks for letting me know
I PMed TayTay a week ago to let her know that I was thinking about coming but it wasn't sure yet. Well, now I've booked my flight and will book a hotel room as well. I'll be there from April 19th to April 23rd.

Maybe you local guys could buy a ticket for me for the reading when you order yours at the bookstore? That would be really great! I'm looking forward to seeing you all again! And it would be nice if we could do something else together. Whatever you guys decide. :loveya:

9. they told me yesterday that they'll be available MONDAY
and you can get them either by phone or in person
DATE: Saturday, April 21st
TIME: 12:00 PM
LOCATION: Memorial Church
Harvard Yard
Cambridge
TICKETS: Tickets cost $5.00 and are available ON MONDAY MARCH 26 at the store or over the phone with a credit card at 617-661-1515. Even though it may seem a little counter-intuitive, you also can't order them by phone until Monday, either. (I think they must set them physically aside after you purchase them). If you order them by phone, you can pick them up later at Harvard Bookstore (1256 Mass Ave, Cambridge: note that this is NOT the Harvard Coop, but an independent bookstore a couple of blocks farther south) or , on the day of the booksigning, at Memorial Church.

10. UPDATE: the ultimate (?) information
: it all depends on whether I manage to get someone to buy the two extra books I had to buy. See below).

The bad (or at least annoying) news {/b] : continuing the saga of constantly shifting stories, Harvard Bookstore has once again changed its policy. The CURRENT way to get tickets is by buying one copy of This Moment on Earth, for $26. With this purchase, you get two tickets FREE. After April 16, any remaining tickets will go on sale for $5 each. As I threw up my hands in exasperation at this latest change in policy (back, more or less, to the original story of a month ago, but differing from accounts I got in person on Saturday, and from two phone calls last week) . When I pointed out to the clerk that their web site says otherwise, the clerk in question said that there was "a glitch" in their web software that wouldn't let them update their pages. But that glitch doesn't explain why I got different stories from other staff members on Friday and Saturday.

Believe it or not, this is a truly great bookstore (they've even gotten national awards, and deserved them), so I 've been flabbergasted by the lack or organization on their part.

Since Luftmensch and EuropeGirl are out of town and I'd promised them tickets, I went ahead and bought two books. This means that I currently have one extra ticket and two extra books (I already bought three copies earlier, probably don't need more), unless Luftmensch and EuropeGirl want the extra ticket and book copies for themselves. If Luftmensch and EuropeGirl don't want either the ticket or the copies, and someone else here wants/needs a ticket and/or extra copies of the book, please pm me. I'd sell them to you at my cost. plus (if relevant) shipping.

11. I'll vouch for the book store,
even though their handling of this event has been truly pathetic. I've been to a few of the more intimate readings there, and they have been great. I guess they are just not set up for the large-scale stuff.

12. correction to earlier comment
Please excuse all the typos in earlier comment.
The worst part is that I managed to erase the "good news" :
A. The tickets are NOW IN THE BOOKSTORE. B. I have tickets for Luftmensch and EuropeGirl, plus an extra ticket. I also (see original comment) have two extra books.

In case you couldn't decipher my earlier botched account, here is the latest policy:
1. you get two free tickets with purchase of the book ($25 plus 5% tax).
OR
2. you can wait until April 16 and buy individual tickets for $5 each, no book purchase necessary.

You can purchase tickets/books by TELEPHONE (see earlier post for #) or in PERSON at the bookstore, or (if tickets are still available) at Memorial Church on the day of the event. If you call in from out of town, you can pick up your tickets/books (before April 21) at the bookstore or, on April 21, at Memorial Church.

13. Don't worry, I'll take the book with the ticket
Actually this is good news for me. I didn't buy the book through Amazon because I wasn't sure to get it in time and I was thinking about buying one in Boston. Thanks so much for all the trouble you were going through to get us the tickets!

15. If you still have the extra ticket without the book, I'll take it
I just got my book on Saturday, so I don't need another copy. But if that extra ticket for $5 is still available, I'd be glad to take it off your hands.

22. I'll be in Boston Thursday night
Tell me when and where to meet on Saturday and I'll be there. MBS was so nice to send me a map and an explanation how to get to Harvard. I'm looking forward to meeting you all again. :-)

If anyone wants to contact me during my stay, I have no cell phone but here's the hotel information again: Shawmut Inn, 280 Friend St, BOSTON, MA 02114, Phone: 617-720-5544. But you could also PM me as I'll bring my laptop and the hotel seems to have internet connection.
