Pike & Musky fisherman: Do any of you use a landing cradle?
And if so, what brand is it and how do you like it?

I've been thinking of getting one because I often catch some pretty big northerns when I'm fishing the St Lawrence. Usually, I can take my needlenose pliers and extract the lure from its mouth while the fish is still in the water. Sometimes, though, it's necessary to land it in order to get the hook(s) out.

Do any of you use a large rubberized net without harming the fish? If you've used both, which way do you prefer...cradle or net? I realize that cradles involve 2 people to use them, right?

1. Have only used nets.
I go fishing in Canada every year for Northern,Walleye and Lake Trout. Leaving tomorrow for Artery in Manitoba, won't be back until Sunday.
I,ve been doing this for years. The only Northerns I've had die were due to hook damage. We release all Northerns and do every thing we can to resuscitate before release. The only cradles I've seen used were a 2 man operation ( If you count the angler as one of the 2 ), one man would have a hell of time by himself.

2. Thanks for the feedback and good luck on your trip
How about a report on your trip when you get back?

3. Haven't yet...
but I've heard that it's always important to wet your net/cradle before landing the fish, because it will help preserve the slime coat.
