Any Firefly fans out there?
As far as Space Opera goes, firefly was one of the best, IMO. Too good and too adult for Fox. It's truly sad they were canceled after a single season, but with a movie coming out things look promising for the future.

14. The storyline makes a lot more sense in the DVDs
Fox totally screwed up the order in which they aired the series.

3. I loved it and I am still quite bitter about having only half a season.
I'm sure the film will be great.

4. Loved it. A milestone in televised sci-fi.
I'm on my third time through the DVDs and am finally picking up some Chinese curse words. I can't wait until next September.

5. Firefly is proof that Fox is a dumb as a tree stump company

A great series that will hopefully be brought back to live out its promise.

6. Loved It.
It was the only thing sci-fi that my wife would watch with me on a regular basis.

7. Same here. My wife HATES science fiction and westerns.
But she LOVED Firefly. She would be the one asking ME if we could watch another episode on the DVDs.

It just goes to show you: If you assemble a terrific cast portraying interesting characters, and you give them witty, intelligent dialog to say, a show can be about ANYTHING and still be great.

8. Major fan here... we just finished watching the DVDs - for the 3rd time!
I, too, am truly saddened it didn't continue.

After "Objects in Space" was over, all I could think was, 'I wanna know what happened next!'

At least we have "Serenity" to look forward to.

12. I'm pretty sure it'll be back...Firefly is a modern day Star Trek.
Firefly, IMO, was one of the most original science fiction shows to hit TV in a decade, but it was introduced at a time when a lot of new shows were vying for attention and simply never found its audience. Even great shows get cancelled when the ratings suck.

Remember, Star Trek (an innovative new take on SciFi in its own day) was originally cancelled by CBS because of its poor and constantly declining ratings. It took years for the show to really pick up a major fan base in reruns, and really didn't explode into the mainstream until the first movie was made.

Firefly is doing the same thing. Introduced with poor ratings and poor marketing, a fan base that's snowballing thanks to word of mouth, Internet "reruns", and DVD sales, and finally an upcoming movie. With a little luck, that movie will introduce the series to the masses and act as a springboard for its resurrection, just like it did for ST.

13. Heard great things about it...
...but it was on FOX, so I refused to tune in. If I see a deal on a used DVD set, though, I'd consider grabbing it.

15. Grab it even if you don't find a deal
I got mine for $40 at Best Buy, and I assure you, it was the best entertainment dollar I ever spent.

I try not to make Rupert Murdoch and richer than I can help. I regret having bought the two X-Men flicks before I realized whose till I was fattening.

20. I looked at my purchase as a vote for good science-fiction
It was only the massive sales of DVD's that got Universal to make the Firefly movie.

Murdoch is wealthier than God anyway, with or without my measly $1.00. If the Carlyle Group produced science-fiction TV shows as good as Firefly, I'd happily shell out just to keep them comin'.

16. Love it
even with the pathetic job FOX did with the half-season it had, I knew it was good. Since my sister got me the DVDs for Christmas, I can see how good it was, plus I turned her into a fan.

17. About a year ago, I'd never heard of Firefly, but...
...I won the DVD set in an online contest I entered on the principle of "what the hell, it's not costing me anything but a few moments of my time."

And it totally blew me away.

It's probably a good thing that I missed Fox's mishandling of the series.

19. Shiny!
I watched the series for the first time a couple months ago to pass the time while I was sick. While I still love Stargate and Atlantis, Firefly is easily the best space opera since Farscape and unbelievably even more under-rated.

21. Wait, can someone fill me in?
I saw two or three episodes of Firefly (the hospital break-in, the duel one, and the dead-in-space three-timelines one) and loved it but it was cancelled. How many episodes were there, and what is this movie I hear of?

22. They filmed 14 episodes total...
But only aired 12. Fox broadcast the episodes in the wrong order, and didn't premiere with the 2-hour long pilot, which I think contributed to the show's cancellation. After the show was canceled, Whedon was able to get a deal for a movie, filmed it (with the entire cast), and it's almost ready to release.
They're delaying it until September (presumably to avoid Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Ewoks.) which totally sucks, because the movie was supposed to come out this April.
