Jehovah's Witnesses Complain That Atheists Won't Keep Beliefs To Themselves

"A new group of atheists has arisen in society. Called the new atheists, they are not content to keep their views to themselves. Rather, they are on a crusade, 'actively, angrily, passionately trying to persuade the religious to their point of view,' wrote columnist Richard Bernstein. Even agnostics are in their sights, for these new atheists allow no room for doubt." - The opening paragraph from the latest issue of Jehovah Witnesses' Awake Magazine. How's that for some hilarious hypocrisy?

3. They are pacifists, but they don't campaign to stop wars
They don't even vote, IIRC.

4. Oh, yes, I regularly knock on people's doors...
and try to convert them to atheism, and leave them copies of 'The Godless Watchtower'.

5. I love my Jovie neighbors
They know Mr. froggie and I are atheists, but they are very friendly with us and never witness to us or let other Jovies come knocking on our door with Watchtowers.

Once, Wendy, the Jovie neighbor wife, said to me while we were pulling weeds in our adjacent flower patches, "Catholics are weird, aren't they?" I answered, "Yes, but then, I think all religions are weird." Wendy playfully threw a weed at me and said, laughing,"Oh, that's right! You're one of those EVIL ATHEISTS!" After we were through weeding, we shared iced tea on her deck.

She and her husband don't vote, but they are interested in political issues and not long ago asked us what republicans could possibly be thinking by saying NO to everything the Democrats are trying to accomplish.

6. once, long ago
I had some JW's stop by the apartment we lived in. I invited them in and played for an hour, and they left. It was all very polite.

The next weekend, they were back for more, but this time, it was the same older Witness with a new younger one, who did all the talking.

This happened for a month or so, and then we moved. New younger one every time.

Cut to a couple of years later. We had left the town, and then moved back, and I had a new job working in a warehouse. One of the other workers was the that same older Witness. (By older, I mean late 20's, btw.) He remembered me and was friendly, and all was well.

I finally asked him what was up with all the visits. Turned out I was the "Final Exam", as it were, for the new Witnesses. They figured if someone could survive me, they were ready to be unleashed on the world at large.

I didn't ask how many passed the exam. I kinda wish I had.
