Atheist agenda, my butt...
Edited on Sat Sep-26-09 04:44 PM by onager
I just posted a rant about a craptastic TV movie over in the Entertainment forum:

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=210&topic_id=30505&mesg_id=30505

This thing was just hilarious - however unintentionally. And naturally showed up on the Nanny Network, f'cking Lifetime.

But talk about pushing an agenda! Sheesh!

As I mentioned, the "good girl" character has a book prominently displayed in her bedroom: My First Book About Jesus. I wondered if that book was written by one of the screenwriters, and inserted as a shameless plug.

She also yammers about how important God is in her life, and mentions going to church as something "radical."

A reviewer over at IMDB nailed it perfectly: Right away, I knew this was going to be a Bible-thumping propaganda movie.

Still worth watching. I haven't seen a real "comedy" in a long time that was as fall-down funny as this thing. Almost every line of (unrealistic) dialogue had me laughing out loud.

"INTERNET PORN IS DESTROYING MY MARRIAGE!!"

1. haha - It sounds like a goodie. Wish
I'd have watched it instead of an oldie on ID.

How clever of the writers to name the "bad girl" character Monica. :eyes:

Lifetime movies are always so didactic.

2. Oh my, what a pity, I missed it
Damn, I go out to get a few groceries and I miss all the good unintentional humor. It sounds like an expanded 1950s era "hygiene" film.

You really have to wonder about the audience this stuff is aimed at. Are they really out there, or are they all pretending to take it seriously while they giggle inwardly?

I just checked and it's gone forever, not to be repeated.

I guess even the LMN has a limit to just how awful something can be before they'll repeat it.

3. More like an ABC Afterschool Special, circa 1975

Really, it's uncanny how the production, character cliches, and haircuts and clothes replicate those old no-budget dramas. The only thing missing are Chevy Novas and the ersatz "rock" soundtrack from studio hacks. Unfortunately, it falls into the it's so bad, it's bad category for me and I can't watch much of it.

10. Sorry for the late reply...
I just caught that Lifetime movie because I was switching channels and happened on it.

However, I will confess to occasionally watching The PMS Network when it's showing one of these "so bad it's good" movies.

But my real addiction? Snapped on Oxygen Channel. My favorite so far is the woman who was a chemist and put her education to good use - she stuffed her ex-husband into a barrel of sulfuric acid.

7. That's what you get
for watching something on Lifetime, the network for women and gay men. ;-)

Last night my wife and I saw a 1965 OMG SMUT IS DESTROYING OUR NATION!!! piece of crap called Perversion for Profit. It featured George Putnam and was produced by the "Citizens for Decent Literature". Once you get to the end they cram in the religion garbage (part five of the YouTube videos). Funny how they never mention the fact that most of the child diddling and sexual abuse of women is done by clergy.

9. One of my husband's cousins' daughters
is married to an evangelical minister. A couple of weeks ago she caught him "researching" Internet porn on their home computer and turned him in to the church board of directors - who immediately fired him and kicked the minister, his wife and three small children out of the parsonage. The ex-minister can't seem to find another job, and now he and his family are living with his wife's parents - who despise him now. Being fine, upstanding Christians, the parents fully support what their daughter did. No word yet as to whether their daughter and her ex-minister husband will divorce.

My husband's family are all wackos when it comes to religion and politics. Mr. froggy and I (and our kids and grandkids) are the only rational ones in the entire bunch.
