Who's read Dawkins's "The God Delusion"?
Just started this over the weekend, stayed up way too late this morning reading. Holy cow. If you opened this book as an agnostic or a weak believer in god(s), wow are you up for an eye-opener. Dawkins takes belief apart and then stomps on it. So much food for thought!

Just curious who else has read it!

1. It's a pretty good book
My one big criticism is that Dawkins confounds religious belief with following religious institutions. The two are not necessarily the same.

7. I don't think he really does that.
He discusses it, of course, but his arguments are not dependent on it.

Anyway, the major target of his criticism, the Abrahamic religious, are perpetuated by strong institutions.

2. I read it and liked it a lot.
I'd say it's at the top of my 'Why I don't believe this stuff' list.

3. I've been an atheist so long that it didn't do anything for me....
I MUCH preferred "The Blind Watchmaker" and by far,
my favorite book by him is "River Out of Eden"

Easy to read and I came away "enlightened",
which is what I was looking for!

6. I read about half of it before my profs buried me with other stuff
I have heard many people accuse Dawkins of including numerous "historical inaccuracies," but after a fair amount of digging no one provided even a single example. I wouldn't put Dawkins above shoddy scholarship, but I think the lack of specificity is telling in this case.

8. I read it.
I already knew there was no god, but what The God Delusion did was to demonstrate that there cannot be a god. It also dispelled NOMA by demonstrating that god is essentially a factual question even if the answer is not known.

I have also read God Is Not Great by Christopher Hitchens. If God Delusion is an indictment of religion, then G.I.N.G. is the verdict. He spells out that many aspects of religion that are seen as positive are in fact monsterous.
