1. Snowman = mindless worshipers
Calvin = deluded theologians (e.g., Pat Robertson)
Susie = atheists

Works for me!

2. Now THAT'S Calvin!!!
A far cry from those white vinyl decals that depict Calvin bowing at the foot of a cross or pissing on a NASCAR driver's number.

3. Aren't those awful?
Christians co-opt everything. I've seen t-shirts with "Jesus Christ" in the format of Coca-Cola and Calvin Kline logos. In the early months of the Clinton administration, supporters of universal health care had bumper-stickers that said "Single Payer". It wasn't long before the xian version appeared: "Single Prayer" (whatever the hell that means)

The first time I saw Calvin at the cross, I thought he was pissing on it, but after I got a closer look, I was disappointed.

My all time favs are still all the xian responses to the Darwin fish...which of course is about the one and only thing we co-opted from them.

4. I like the ones where the christian fish is eating the darwin fish...
It's cute how they're completely unaware how perfectly they're making Darwin's arguments for him. And Dawkins, for that matter.

6. The one where the Christian fish is labeled "Truth"?
Edited on Thu Feb-09-06 03:53 PM by MindPilot
Whenever I see one of those, I say to myself, "got that right; Darwin was consumed by the truth."

And I'm always entertained by the bumper sticker of the dead upside-down Darwin fish with little x's for eyes that says "Darwin is dead and fish don't walk." Wrong, dumbass. Ever heard of a mudskipper?

7. A little known snippet
The christian fish symbol, the Ichthys they pinched from pagan religions. And the hilarious part is what that particular stylised symbol was symbolic off (not that your modern day 'bumper sticker' christians know of this older meaning). So next time you see a bible thumping foaming nutter with a fish symbol, just remember...

If you want a hint to the old meaning...rotate the fish symbol 90 degrees and then compare to a part of female anatomy, as it was originally a fertility symbol

10. That's Priceless!
Thanks for that little-known snippet! When the opportunity presents itself, I shall use that information with great reverence in the most offensive manner possible.

12. I live near a Fundy college and work at a Catholic College ...
yeah, I'm a masochist ... Anyway, I'm always tempted to print up a couple little flyers with that little fact and sticking them under people's windshields. Hee hee hee. Ah, the thought just makes me giggle.

13. I love the description for the shirt.
"Apologies to Diddy and his Diet Pepsi, but there is another brown and bubbly on the scene.

His name is Jesus Christ and He is as classic as Coca-Cola – refreshing, effervescent, and sweet like high-fructose corn syrup. Everyone wants to take a tall, dark drink of this pop.

Also available in diet cherry vanilla lemon caffeine-free Christ (sweetened with Splenda)."

14. I recall Waterson explaining that he *never* licensed C+H to...
anybody. He never wanted to participate in the usual sell-out to branded merchandise. Which makes me wonder... Wouldn't it be sweet if Waterson brought suit against all the manufacturers of these idiotic rip-offs?

I'm sure it's not really worth his time. But I, for one, would love watching it.

15. Yeah, I hate seeing those ridiculous pissing decals.
I doubt many of the people that use them have any idea they are degrading a great strip.

16. Waterson's smart move
A lawsuit would just sell more decals.

5. I've always wondered if the rubes who have those decals...
have ever actually read Calvin and Hobbes. Or if they even realize whose image they're ripping off.
