ARLINGTON, Va. – It’s time for DODEA Director Shirley Miles to be replaced, said Michael Priser, head of the union that represents teachers at Defense Department schools.
On Thursday, the union gave a list of complaints against Miles to Tommy Thomas, deputy undersecretary of defense for military community and family policy, a union news release said.
Among its grievances, the union takes issue with Miles’ proposal to increase middle school class sizes, and cut reading programs in Europe and the Pacific, as well as a math program in stateside schools, Priser said.
Miles has been director of Department of Defense Education Activity since June 2008.
“Not only do I believe that she is implementing policies that hurt children, but that we – and I personally – have tried to work with Dr. Miles in the past year and have not seen a change in the direction in which she’s going or in her style of leadership,” Priser said.
