The Ground Truth: After The Killing Ends
The Ground Truth: After The Killing Ends
Trailer for documentary film about the truth of life on the ground.

Run time: 02:22
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dLjKtLnetK4

This is an intimate look into the lives of our soldiers (all ranks) 'on the ground' in Iraq and Afghanistan.
It follows and interviews them and their families to provide a picture of the day to day reality of these soldiers' existence and the ones who love them, on the 'battlefield' and as they attempt to return home and assume their former lives. It also reveals the indoctrination and training that goes into 'shaping' our troops into a military fighting machine.

1. Next Thursday - Screen this movie with your community and write to Congress >>>
Next Thursday, tens of thousands of us—from Nashville to Boise—are getting together in homes across the nation to watch the powerful documentary, The Ground Truth and then write letters pushing Congress to stop the escalation. Can you join us at a screening in "your town"?

Watch "The Ground Truth"

Dear MoveOn member,

Next Thursday, tens of thousands of us—from Nashville to Boise—are going to get together in homes across the nation to watch the powerful documentary, The Ground Truth and then write letters pushing Congress to stop the escalation. We'll hand-deliver those letters directly to our representatives the following week.

This is a movie you should see. It's told through the eyes of veterans of this war and it reminds us that this is not just about troop numbers and dollar amounts. This is about real lives that will never be the same even if they make it home.

You can click here to search from over 1,000 parties all over the country.

Movie night couldn't come at a more important time. We'll be coming together the very same day the House votes on a resolution opposing escalation—-it'll be a critical moment for us to push them to take the next step.

As Demond Mullins, an Iraq War veteran featured in the film said, "The Iraq War has ruined thousands of lives, American and Iraqi. An escalation of the conflict is an egregious advance in the same dark direction."

We have to take action to stop the escalation. Handwritten letters, like the ones we'll write after the movie, are one of the most effective ways to get our representatives' attention. And if enough of us show up and write letters, we can really make a big impact on Congress.

The Ground Truth is told through the eyes of veterans of this war. It's a harrowing look at what some soldiers go through when they return and try to put their lives back together. The Chicago Tribune called it "powerful and intensely compelling."

The veterans in this documentary have seen the painful reality of war and this movie gives them an important platform to speak. We owe it to them to listen and we owe it to them to do our part to help end this war.

Can you join us next Thursday to watch The Ground Truth and stop the escalation?

2. Thanks!
I was looking for some information to see what exactly troops do in their daily lives in Iraq and Afghanistan. I was in Kosovo in 2000. I had the feeling that in Iraq and Afghanistan it probably wasen't much different. I bet they'er doing check points, cordon and search, and humanitarian relief. It's a bit annoying because of the propaganda maching always saying "war war war" when it's not much more than "keeping the peace/peacekeeping". It is dangerous, just like the black hawk down incident in somolia.

The chickehawks are really trying to keep the propaganda up about it. Thats why they'er stopping soldiers from blogging and shutting down web sites. The government has been trying to use it's propaganda and has been doing a good job. From what I've seen it's more peacekeeping/nation building.

The demoralizing thing is when doing check points the next car might be a bomb on wheels. You could be driving down the street one day and the next box you see on the road could be the last thing you see. That has to be terrible for morale. Not to mention troops aren't that stupid and they know this is all about money.

3. Review of the movie: Who Will Protect and Defend Our Military From the Bush Administration?

Who Will Protect and Defend Our Military From the Bush Administration?
by Barbara Miller

Last night, I attended a MoveOn event, one of more than a thousand nationwide. Our principal agenda was to view the film, "The Ground Truth." The movie focused briefly on the recruiting, training and deploying of U.S. military troops to Iraq. It did not shy away from deaths-ours, theirs, calculated, accidental. However, the film's main focus was on women and men who physically survive the Iraq War, with or without all of their limbs, facial features and internal organs intact.

The "lucky ones" look much as they did when they left for war. But they're not. To some extent, they're soul-scarred humans who are sent home after their literal involvement in the killing stops. They are forever changed. They're also trained killers who have seen and participated in the worst the world has to offer. They must attempt to distance themselves from all of that when they come "home," however that is defined.

Just so you know, I'm not going to do a synopsis here. "The Ground Truth's" message is a visual thing, which is why it's a film and not an IPod broadcast. Click here and here for more information and to view a trailer.

It's not the best movie ever made, Oscar nod notwithstanding. But its message is profoundly important. Shortcut: "What the hell are we doing?" ..cont'd
