Convicted Dix conspirators file appeals

TRENTON, N.J. — At least three of the five men convicted last month of conspiring to kill soldiers on New Jersey’s Fort Dix have filed appeals in the case.

U.S. District Court Judge Robert Kugler had given them a Jan. 26 deadline to file any post-verdict motions.

Defendant Serdar Tatar had already asked Kugler to overturn his verdict or schedule a new trial. A lawyer for defendant Eljvir Duka filed on Friday to join Tatar’s motion.

Defendant Shain Duka’s lawyer filed a similar motion on Monday.

A telephone message left for Michael Huff, a lawyer for defendant Dritan Duka, was not returned Monday.
