40 Pope airmen return from Middle East

POPE AIR FORCE BASE, N.C. — More than 40 airmen from Pope Air Force Base have returned from the Middle East.

The pilots and airmen from the 2nd Airlift Squadron returned Monday and Tuesday. They flew combat airlift missions to forces throughout the Middle East for the last four months.

Pope regularly deploys airman and C-130H cargo planes from Air Force Reserve Command’s 440th Airlift Wing to the region. Since Sept 11, 2001, the Air Force has flown more than 7 million passengers and 3 million tons of cargo to soldiers in Iraq and Afghanistan.
