Navy recruiter charged with drug distribution

BENTON, La. — Bossier Parish Sheriff Larry Deen says a Navy recruiter has been arrested for distributing methamphetamine and Xanax.

Deen says his office asked narcotics agents with the Shreveport Police Department to take Jason M. Balliet into custody. The 26-year-old faces two counts of distribution and was transported to the parish jail.

Deputies say that on July 29, a sheriff’s office undercover agent bought $190 worth of Xanax pills from Balliet, who was dressed in his U.S. Navy white dress service uniform. They say Balliet arrived at the meeting in his government-issued vehicle.

Deen says that on August 2, Balliet arranged a meeting between the undercover agent and another suspect who sold the agent $280 worth of methamphetamine.

Balliet, who is employed at a U.S. Navy’s recruiting station, is being held on $30,000 bond.
