Remains found on a glacier in a California national park are those of World War II-era airman Ernest Glenn Munn, his family members told the Fresno Bee for a Wednesday report.

The glacier in Kings Canyon National Park was the site where mountain backpackers found the remains of airman Leo Mustonen in October 2005, park officials said. Munn’s remains were found in August 2007 and were identified recently, the Bee reported.

Munn and Mustonen were in an AT-7 with two other men on Nov. 18, 1942, when a blizzard caused the plane to crash. The other occupants were pilot William Gamber, 23, and aviation cadet John Mortenson, 25.

Munn’s younger sister, Jeanne Pyle, told the Bee she was contacted Friday by military officials with the confirmation, and that Munn will be buried in his hometown of St. Clairsville, Ohio.
