Ex-SEAL indicted on 5 weapons counts

NORFOLK, Va. — A federal indictment has been returned against a former Navy SEAL who officials say had an arsenal in his Suffolk home.

Elbert Tillman Jr., 35, was indicted late Thursday on five felonies, including possessing firearms and explosives by a drug user. The indictment was unsealed Friday in Norfolk.

Tillman was arrested Dec. 29 after Suffolk police discovered weapons and military-grade explosives at his home.

According to court records, Tillman took the explosives and guns with him when he left the Navy in 2001. He had been in the service for 10 years.

Tillman is free on bond but is wearing an electronic monitoring device.
