Star Jones Reynolds confirmed Tuesday morning on The View that she is leaving the daily gabfest in July. But she didn't tell viewers she was fired.

Jones Reynolds, who has been with the show since it began nine years ago, told People magazine her contract was not renewed.

But on the show, she said only: "After much prayer and counsel I feel like this is the right time to tell you that the show is moving in another direction for its tenth season and I will not be returning as cohost next year."

The studio audience gave her a standing ovation.

In an interview in the upcoming issue of People, Jones Reynolds, 44, admitted: "What you don't know is that my contract was not renewed for the tenth season. I feel like I was fired."

She claims she was told her contract would not be renewed just days before Rosie O'Donnell was announced as the new co-host, replacing Meredith Viera.

1. I'm actually surprised that she is surprised by this...
Star has watched while that show has treated other castmembers dirty, Debbie Matanoupolis comes to mind. Though I know she wasn't as beloved as Star, they still have a history of making changes to the cast, releasing public statements that they had a 'parting of ways' and the cast member later says, "...no I was fired."

I always got the sense that Lisa Ling saw this about the show, and made moves prior to it happening to her.

2. To clarify...
...for me, it's like the women that date married men. When or if the guy leaves his wife, it never occurs to her that he will also cheat on her. While probably an odd example, it's all I could think of to make my point. After seeing the way they treat guests and other co-hosts of the show, I would think she'd have a better sense of the possibility that it could happen to her as well.

3. I get it, Bliss!
When The View was launched I had high hopes for it because I'm old enough that I still view Barbara Walters as a pinoeering woman in broadcasting. Well...let's just say that - high hopes aside - I never became a fan of the show. From the first there's been sniping, back-biting, musical chairs and way too much cattiness. I thought it would have a magazine format that just happened to have all females - smart females. I had no idea it'd be so intentionally bitchy. I remember catching it once (I was held hostage at the time) when a legal issue came up and Joyce Behar totally dissed and dismissed Jones' input as if she had a law degree. Why someone like Jones' kept herself in such a position (as the resident sassy big black woman) was always, always beyond me. Then again, the money must've been great.

Okay, to Star Jones. She has never said she was fired. She's said she felt like she was fired but Walters and the network execs have gone out of their way to confirm the reasons she was let go. I can't say I've been a huge admirer of Star Jones but the actions of Walters and the network validated her statements and complaints, imo. I only ever got stuck watching this show at the doctor's office but next time I'm there I'm climbing on a chair to change the channel. I don't care if I have to fight the other waiting room hostages, I ain't watchin' it. The View does not portray women in a good light. What you get from it is that women can't get along without cliques or stabbing each other in the back.
