I'm curious about what others here think about this. From what I've read and seen, I think this is a very good thing. I'm pleased to see a young woman standing up and saying,'... this is what I allowed to happen, and this is wrong--as a woman, as a black woman I am more than this.'
I really don't care that she's named names, which a lot from the AA community seem really upset about. I think it's good that she did, to open up the eyes of some of these young women of exactly what's waiting for them if they pursue that 'lifestyle.'
Anyway, here's a link to an article on the Washington Post about it.
The one I provide on my post above... I don't know, it just seems like the interviewer is kind of snarky and accusing and I don't like that.
I found an article about the young lady and her book on this link from the washington post.
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/20... Some of the comments made on page two of the article I found to be true, in through my personal research of this story--too many people within the community seem willing to reduce this to her selling out somehow--or making her out to be a slut, etc. I will never understand why it's ok for men, but a woman has to be a whore.
It's like Anita Hill in a way. A black woman coming forward and saying she was victimized by a black man and all I heard was 'bitch' and 'whore' and 'he probably turned her down, now she's getting revenge.' As opposed to a woman that saw this hypocrite was being nominated to the highest court in our country and someone should know about it.
She had nothing to gain. All she gained was unwarranted judgement by the public for trying to do the right thing.
Now a young woman who yes, gained money and some fame for this, but despite that, she is trying to help other young girls. To help them to realize that this life is not all that it is portrayed as and is being diminished as a sell out slut for telling the truth. She openly admits she whored herself out--I just don't get why some need to villify her, but not the men.
She had a pretty hot interview with Tyra Banks apparently, where Tyra decided to be harsh with her and defend the men she speaks about in her book. In fact, the interview will be on a re-run in an hour and I'm planning to watch just how much Ms. Tyra sold out a sister to stand up for men that use women regularly. In Tyra's words "my colleagues..." Whatever Tyra.
Sorry this is so long--if you've heard about this and have an opinion I'd love to hear it! :hi:
