The SHAMblog picked up the infamous Oprah interview
No regrets at all-- staying grounded in reality is negative thinking, after all; and your health demands you maintain a constant state of blissed-out-ness.

I am still convinced that RH made herself out to be JRE's life coach.

Do you know how susceptible Americans are to any old schmoe who tells them, "Do X and you'll be happier and healthier"?

How long have we been enduring articles from the medical media saying that any kind of stress was bad for our health?
That the more sex we have, the healthier we will be?
That religious people-- especially fundamentalists-- were the happiest people in America?
That social support was always good-- no matter what we have to do to get it?
That happiness at all costs including ethics, morals, and reality, was what we should strive for?

And now, this...
(maybe one of the things RH "counseled" JRE on?)

We lack good health care, we distrust Big Pharma, we suspect every doctor is on the take because, hey, being on the take has become necessary to earn a living.

So we embrace the Woo. It gives us a feeling of being in control of our lives and our health.

And if our optimal health demands that we screw over the woman and the kids who have loved us for years, as well as our adoring public, then so be it. They should understand, after all, that we're only doing it for our well-being.

Kudos to Steve at SHAMblog for jumping on this!

1. Edwards should read Barbara Ehrenreich's book
about "positive thinking" and all of that other crap.

2. I have a close relative who likes to quote Lincoln: "you can be just as happy as you want to be"
The irony--she's suffered from lifelong depression.
