Considering A Low Cost Nylon String
Since my wife talked me into getting a manicure, just to have the experience, my nails grew so nicely and strong, that i think i can actually play finger style and get a good tone. I know how to do it, but i always had weak nails and couldn't grow them far enough beyond the fingertip that i couldn't get the nail to sound all the strings reliably.

Now, that i can do it on a steel string, i'm thinking of getting a nylon string, if only to play Blackbird the way i want to.

Anybody know any brands that are really good for the money?

1. Sorry I missed this, Prof.
I've bought a few brand new classicals in the last half dozen years, and the ones I ended up buying are Hohner. They really stack up in a decent-sound-quality-to-low-price kind of way. There's probably others that are just as good, but Hohner's not too shabby for around a hundy.

2. Thanks
I don't want to spend too much, because i probably won't play it that often. And, i prefer my guitars to be minial on ornament, so a cheapie is probably best for that too.

I still have an old Jack Cichini (i think that's how he spelled his name) string stretcher. Neat little device to put tension on the string in two dimensions to get the nylon strings to stretch out really quickly. Haven't used it for probably more than 25 years. They don't work on steel strings any better than just pulling on the string with fingers.

But, my first playble guitar (a piece of junk) was a nylon string. So, this is probably also a bit of nostalgia. I don't want to spend too much over nostalgia.

BTW: My actualy first guitar was a 12 string Epiphone. It was designed to have no heel, so the neck was BOLTED to a block of wood inside the body. But, they used pine for the wood block. So, it expanded and shrunk at a greater rate than the rest of the guitar, and eventually cause the neck to bow into the body. So, by the time i got it, i would guess the action at the 12th fret was about an inch. That's the main reason i play acoustic slide. On my first guitar, i had to!!! Could play a chord about the 5th fret, and that's probably being generous.

Pine neck blocks.
Plywood blocks, yes.
What kind of degree you say you had?
