Jim Carrey "opts for consciousness-raising"
Some might say that spirituality and Hollywood go together like sensitivity and pro wrestling.

But that’s just the kind of habitual/stereotypical thinking that more than 500 entertainment industry types vowed to vanquish at a conference Thursday night as they came together for the first meeting of the Global Alliance for Transformational Entertainment (GATE).

Spiritual teacher Eckhart Tolle and movie star/seeker Jim Carrey headlined the more-than-three-hour session at an auditorium on the Fox lot in Century City. Along with singer Melissa Etheridge and several other speakers, they urged their colleagues in film, television, music and other media to transcend the tawdry and mundane with higher-minded fair (sic).

It must have been important to those packed into the meeting. They missed the Lakers' opening championship-round game to be there.

Producer John Raatz, who formed the organization, said the time is ripe in the entertainment industry for an “up-leveling of consciousness” that, in turn, would lead to more work delving into the spiritual and divine.

<snip>

Just what we need - more Jim Carrey films "delving into the spiritual and divine".

1. Wonderful. I can see it now: "What the Bleep Part 2"
May the woo be with them. Pity about Melissa Etheridge, though. I thought she was smarter than that.

2. I understand that Carey is getting his girlfriend involved -
and they're going to make a spiritually uplifting movie in which he plays a manic, screeching homeopath who convinces people to stop vaccinating their kids, thus producing a generation of indigo children who can communicate telepathically with aliens, saving the world from destruction when Big Pharma tries to launch a satellite designed to beam of drug-addiction energy on the planet below. Arnold Swartzenegger plays an Orbe. A BIG Orbe.

4. Infidel! You mean "What the Bleep - The QUANTUM Edition!"

I wish I was kidding...

...the filmmakers were besieged by requests for more: More information, more science, more applications to their personal lives...

Or, if they wish to “Go Quantum” by using a randomization function on their DVD player, the film restructures itself every time it’s viewed so it’s never the same film twice.

I saw this POS when I was poking around in Fry's last night. It was loitering with intent to defraud in the Special Interests section, a catch-all where the store parks all the documentaries, science DVDs, etc.
