While people like me scratch and claw and fight for medical benefits..
There are idiots like a certain person in GD who refuses to give his "insurance money" to the doctor for a regular check up because he knows for sure that the only reason the doctor wants him to come in for check ups is to make money off him! Fucking moron. How many people like this, because they refuse to have regular treatment , cause costs to come up when ignoring the doctor inevitably leads to catastrophic health problems?
I also like how this guy is a magic mind reader.
I wish we could ship people like this off to someplace like West Africa where they would learn how valuable having insurance and a doctor is....:banghead:

1. Well, my magic mind reading cap tells me
that the translation for that idiot's verbiage is "I'm SCARED of DOCTORS!"

Ignorance and stupidity are a lethal combination and their own reward.

2. You realize that poster is a troll, right?
That the poster has a habit of ONLY posting highly inflammatory threads guaranteed to raise a stink and cause a 200+ thread response.

This person also posted on DU once that they were struck and injured by a hit-and-run driver, and wanted to know if they were obligated to call the police and go to the hospital. When other DU'ers urged this poster to at least call the police and report the hit and run, and to get checked out for injuries, the poster became his usual "stubborn" self and defended why he thought he should have no obligation to call the police and why he had no obligation to go to the hospital to get checked out. My thought was "Why did you ask the question if you already had formed your own answer".

This poster has a pattern, one that is easily recognized by most DU'ers, and why this obvious troll is still allowed to post on DU is a mystery that will probably never be answered.

8. Certainly has strange views...
for one thing he is incredibly anti-British (strong IRA supporter).

As regards this idea that doctors only want to give you checkups because they're after your money - well there's lots of evidence that regular checkups improve life expectancy. If people are afraid of doctors, or can't or won't find the time to see a doctor, that's up to them but a mistake IMO. If they can't afford to see a doctor until they're really ill, that's a tragedy. But if they just think it's a useless moneyspinner for the doctor, then they're fools.

4. I'm a nurse and I get shit benefits
The last hospital I worked at gave free benefits for workers, but to insure my husband (34 years old, no health problems, healthy as a fucking horse) would have been $330 a month and in Jan 08 it was raised to $380 a month.

I am a travel nurse now and the insurance I have is free, but $400 to cover my husband and I have a $1500 deductible. Ugh.

My husband is a nurse now, thankfully, and his hospital offers SWEET benefits. He is free, and it's only $140 a month to cover me with a $500 deductible.

Sick that as a nurse I can't even afford to cover my spouse--you know, THE PERSON I LIVE WITH AND WHO WILL GIVE ME SICKNESS WHEN HE IS SICK. Stupid.

6. You'd think
I mean, it's not like on a daily (nightly, actually) basis I'm around people who have either highly contagious illnesses like TB, the flu, chicken pox, MRSA, C-diff, VRE, or are around people who are so severely immunocompromised that they can't even have fresh flowers in their room because of the high risk of infecting them.

I mean, it's not like it would be in the patient's best interest if their nurses were, you know, HEALTHYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY.

sorry.

I live with my husband. We share the same dishes, cups, and utensils. We sleep on the same sheets and swap drooly pillows. We sit on the same toilet and use the same shower. Our toothbrushes practically make love due to their close proximity. Heck, we've even been known to exchange body fluids in one way or another and usually we're in very close proximity to each other at that time as well.

*HIS* health status is basically *MY* health status. If he gets the flu, *I* get the flu, and vice versa.

The kicker--and no, I'm not anti child---is that if I were single, and had a kid, it would be $124 to insure me and my kid. If I had 5 kids it would be $124 to insure me and my 5 kids. If I had 102923893984 kids, it would STILL be $124.

But $400 for an adult who has less infectious risk than a child. I'm all for single parents and children having insurance, but it's pretty damn ridiculous that the husband of a nurse has to go to Community Health Clinic to get his balls squeezed and his airbags listened to because his wife's employer is full of cheap assholes that don't understand that $4800 a year is quite a bit of coin to spend. Especially when I get shit for pay raises...

sorry. vent. Anger. quitting.

7. no, i understand
my parents are lucky in that both of them have quality health insurance. In a few months when I start grad school (hopefully) I can go back on their insurance until i'm 25.

A lot of people seem to think that the uninsured people in america are illegal immigrants. But I have news: i would say a VERY large percentage of those people consists of poor minimum wage workers whose companies suck and won't give affordable benefits, and are currently on the MUCH cheaper "Don't Get Sick" policy.

9. Wow.
You should post about this in GD. If anything is a symptom of a terribly broken system its the fact that a health professional can't get good insurance!
