Peas are the chickens of the vegetable world.
I love my chickens. They scratch, eat slugs, poop, and say "look look look look look look look look look" as well as give me eggs. But they are not very bright. They also say "HEY EVERYONE I JUST LAID AN EGG RIGHT THERE!!! LOOK LOOK LOOK! WOOHOOO!!!!!", not good for survival in the wild.

Peas are not very bright plants. They grow well, are developing pods, taste good, are very nice to have. But not very bright.

I planted them 1 inch away (horizontally) from the strings they were to climb rather than exactly underneath. I figured I'd have to attach them when they got tall enough, then they would climb on their own but nooooooooooooooooo. I have to shove them through the strings almost every day, because they want their heads to be directly over where they come out of the ground. They are over 5 ft tall, winding back and forth through the string and they still can't manage to do it on their own.

Every day they are growing out from the strings, flailing around, winding around each other going "OMG, where is that string?" which is 1 inch away. Which is right where they were yesterday.

My beans, they do just fine, winding here and there and everywhere, but peas?

2. Another thought.....
I love your post...it's almost poetic. I can picture you talking to those peas, urging them gently to do the right thing and them talking right back to you. I find myself talking to my weeds...

3. I always feel strange when I apologize to my plants
Mr.sazemisery has caught me saying "I'm sorry!" when I accidentally break off a tomato shoot trying to bend it through the cage it is trying to escape.

I never apologize to the weeds.
