Washing "pickles" in a front loader?
We always used to wash our cukes in the washing machine so they would be clean for pickling. Now both my brother and I have front loaders and aren't sure the cukes would survive an attempt.

My grandmother used to wash her in her wringer washer when I was a little girl.

1. wow, that's very interesting!
The recipe I use says not to wash the cucumbers. But the recipe is for fermented dills, and a little dirt helps the fermentation along, I guess.

I love hearing tidbits of old ways, like yours above.

3. do you end up with grit in the pickles?
I hate to buy a jar of pickles and have sand in them.

5. I don'te have a front loader
but sure wish I did! I just soak mine in the sink for a few hours in cold water with ice or frozen bottles of water that we use for our coolers.

I'm guessing that since the motion of a front loader is vertical rather than horizontal agitation, the cukes are likely gonna take a bruising. Just a guess.
