Vibes for my kitty please
Edited on Sun Aug-16-09 03:25 PM by Sanity Claws
I have a 13 year old (approximately) cat who was lying on the bed while I was cleaning the bedroom. After patting him on the head, I sat with him and noticed that he kept shaking his head, not wild shaking, but like little tremors. Anyone have any idea what the problem is?
I called the vet's office but it's closed. I'm going to call first thing tomorrow and see if I can get an appointment. This has me frightened.

1. I don't know. It doesn't sound good.
Do you have a pet ER or is there a way to get hold of your vet? They will come in on a weekend if they think it's an emergency. I know I had one of my past kitty's convulsing and even though I drove to the vet in the middle of the night, I waited for them to open while I tried to help my convulsing cat in the car. When I got her into the office, he was pretty mad at me and told my I should have gone through the service. He would have come in the middle of the night. Although they were able to stop the convulsing, she died later on that day. I cry every time I think of it.

2. I'm sorry, Cleita.
We love our pets so much.
I'm fortunate that he is not having convulsions. He had mild tremors but they have stopped. I will still take him to the vet tomorrow.

12. Great question
When I spoke with the vet, she also asked about his eyes. I told her that I didn't notice anything about his eyes. She said it didn't sound neurological then.
I just wanted to give you kudos for knowing that was the right question.

4. Perhaps you could ask kestrel91316, since she is our resident DU Vet
I'm sure she would be willing to help. She would probably know what to tell you.

5. Aww sending light
Sorry to hear about your kitty, SC. I couldn't say what it is, but a trip to the vet is a wise decision. Let us know what they say.

11. Update
I spoke with the vet and she asked if I noticed anything about his eyes. I didn't. She said she doubted it was neurological and asked me to check his ears with a q-tip. His ears are cleaner than mine. (Well, his brother cat licks his ears for him; I don't have anyone to lick my ears clean!)
So I don't know what's going on. As the doctor suggested, I'll just keep my eyes open and bring him in if it happens again.

Thanks everyone for the good vibes for my dear, dear Sebastian.

13. I was wondering if
he was developing a vestibular problem; oftentimes with that, you will notice their pupils moving side to side (it's very odd looking), weird head movements, and walking as if they are "drunk."

It's a real pain, but clears up eventually-- even though some docs like to prescribe a steriod treatment.
