Update on Rick (ricochetastroman) on Monday, August 10th
For anyone who might not be aware of it, Rick had heart bypass surgery last week.

My husband and I went to see him in the hospital today. He was very weak, was in some pain, but he was in pretty good spirits, especially since he was pretty well drugged due to the pain. (Joking, teasing, threatening that I may have to write his September newsletter. :scared: )

Besides the pain, the congestion in his lungs is probably what is most bothering him.

One of the first things he asked when he saw me was how everyone here was doing. I made sure that he was aware of all of the good wishes and vibes that have been sent his way. That seemed to make him really happy.

4. Thank you, too, for the update, IHAD :)
I hope that congestion clears out soon. I know how aggravating that kind of thing is.

You might ask him if there's any music he'd like to listen to while he's recovering. I mention this because in convsersing with Alison Kelly during an Angel Reading/Healing I had a few weeks back, I learned that she had listened to Jonathan Goldman's "Chakra Chants" CD nonstop in the ICU after back surgery. I don't know if that's the kind of music he'd like, but any of his favorites would help. We all know how healing music can be for us :)

18. I agree! It's a great CD :)
But maybe play a little for him. If he doesn't like it, have one of his favorite kinds of music handy. Feeling good through music is all that matters in the longrun :)

8. Does he get wireless internet in the hospital?
Edited on Mon Aug-10-09 09:19 PM by Celebration
Being connected would do him wonders.

Sounds like he is coming around, though.

13. I don't know if the hospital has wireless Internet access.
Right now, he's in the Intensive Care Unit. Once he is moved to a regular room, he'll be able to do more. I'm sure that if it's available, he'll insist on having his laptop.

Do the docs have his lung congestion under control? It may take awhile for that to clear up. Just tell Rick to be patient and rest - not to push himself to do too much too soon. Tell him we are all still here sending healing thoughts his way. If he can't write his newsletter for September it'll make October's that much more special. :hi:

12. Can you believe that he's lying in the Intensive Care unit, and...
Edited on Mon Aug-10-09 10:15 PM by I Have A Dream
he's concerned about his newsletter? He was joking about my writing it, but it was obviously on his mind.

In reference to the congestion, they're doing special treatments on him to deal with the congestion. I think that it will be under control soon.

As I said in the post below, pleural effusions are common after bypass surgery. Docs know how to manage it. :hi:

when we were leaving. They didn't seem at all concerned, thank goodness.

in these circumstances? I know nothing. Would appreciate any insights you and others might have.

Thanks

25. Yes I do. Here's some info:
The proper term is "pleural effusion" (fluid in the lung). It's quite common after heart surgery and in most cases spontaneously resolves. Often patients have daily breathing treatments to 'hurry up' the process. When the effusion is large and symptomatic the patient might need the fluid drained and require treatment with NSAIDs and/or prednisone.

I don't think it's anything to get alarmed about - just might take awhile to recover completely.

Hope that helps! :hi:

23. My stars! I had NO idea Rick was ill!
I've been gone for a while and had NO idea Rick was sick. I am SO sorry to hear about it! How many bypasses did they end up doing for him--do we know? That open heart stuff can take a while to bounce back from, but ir really can make a world of difference. Here's hoping it helps Rick out a bunch!

I'm sending well wishes his way and hoping his nose is cold and wet again very soon!

Laura

30. That's great news!
As far as music, I have been a musician my whole life and I know a whole lot about classical music.

If he needs something soothing, get him ANYTHING by the Tallis Scholars and/or Anonymous Four.

He's got many, many healthy years ahead of him. My cousin thrived after bypass surgery for decades once he recovered and healed.
