Chat and other group sessions

Okay, I'd like to use this thread to start chats. We can have individual threads later as we get used to whichever chatroom or site we use. I still need to PM the owners of Spirit Forums to see if they have any existing chat-sessions for classes, healing and so on. I feel this could help us all grow all the more. And chat doesn't have to be an obligation, just a fun way to get to know each other even better and make use of our talents together :)

Tinychat seems like the best standalone chatroom available or one that's not afiliated with any other site. You'll notice when you go to that site that it randomly generates a named room, but I think you can name a room and set it up to go to again and again. However, instructions like that are not to be found (that I've been able to discern) on their main page, so it's just a guess at this point.

I have tried a named room, "du-asah" and it seems to let me bring it up over and over, so we might try it now. I'm in the room as I type this. Sea yawl! :)

1. As far as I can tell

when you go into the "room" it will have a field up front that is for your nickname. The whole thing is Flash-based, so if you don't have that enabled or loaded on your computer, then it's not going to work.

So far one "guest" has stopped by, but I'm guessing the way of putting in the nickname might be confusing some.

Also, this is a very basic chatroom. There doesn't seem to be any way of changing text colors, fonts and so on. The chatrooms at SF are more versatile that way...

2. Well, I just checked in and had

a conversation with Kentauros and it worked very smoothly. Just made up a nickname and went right on in without any kind of registration. First time I've ever chatted in real-time.

But it seemed to work fine. Quickly. No registering. Looks and is easy to do. Perfect!

When would we use this? Would we have a designated coffee hour? Or workshops? Or... ?

4. A designated time is certainly the best way to plan to meet

so all we need to know is when people are online and when is the best middle ground time. I'm on CST, so maybe get an idea of whose on what timezone and go from there :)

I was in the room until about 7:00pm CST tonight. I did notice that there are no smilies, so if you want that, we'll have to go elsewhere. I haven't asked SF if they have designated chat times for groups, but they do have separate rooms within their chat area.

there are probably things all of us would like to discuss and get input about but not via a public messageboard.
